Re: what to do when you and your hubby cant decide on babynames
^ lol
we keep running into should we use the gora version of the name or the desi one? my husband loves gabriel for a boy, and i love jibreel. actually, i love both and can't decide. both are such that people won't mangle them when they're pronounced in schools here, etc., but we're stuck- is gabriel too anglo for a half white/half brown baby?
same with our two girl options- there is either Eden or Jannah. he's definitely NOT into Jannah and i think i support him in that.... but again, is Eden too gora?
and then our second option- what about Eva? Its a direct translation of Bibi Hawwa's name, but i cannot imagine naming my daughter Hawwa.
so yeah, i get where you're coming from, Nadz! names are important!
Adam is a good choice. i know a lot of couples who are considering Joshua (Yahya) or Zachary (Zachariah) too, but again with the anglo issue... hrm....
also, with Fatima, i don't like how non-desi people have a hard time pronouncing it so it either becomes "fatty-ma" (lots of teasing there) or "fa-teema", which i feel is a completely different name-- its not "faa-ti-maa" like the desi version.
also with Iman, i'd probably spell it Emaan, given the whole iPod, iTouch, etc. naming craze... you don't want her to be teased for being an i-Man when she's a girl, you know?
