Hi all,
So I’ll be in NY for either 1 day or 2..schedule hasn’t been finalized yet. I’ve been there a couple of times already..seen the usual tourist attractions..the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, Central Park, Empire State Building, Ellis Island.
-
I want to see either/both the Museum of Metropolitan Art and Museum of Modern Art. Which do you guys suggest and why?
-
Maybe a Broadway show…suggestions and reviews welcome
-
What are some places that most tourists don’t normally see but are definitely worth checking out?
-
What are some of your favorite places/ things to do on the East Coast?
(I know there are a lot of you out on that side of the country that can help me out!)
Re: What to do in NY for a day or two?
I would say go to MoMA and if you have time also check out museum of Natural History.
It all depends on your interest, check websites for each museum to see whats on display right now and decide.
As for Broadway shows you can not go wrong with Lion King, Phantom both classics..but again do you like effects/substance...etc. Mary Poppins is supposed to be good as well.
I also know Rent is a great production as well as Mamma Mia. Hmm if you dont have time to plan in advance, in times sq..i think 43rd st...there is a huge booth in the center....ticket sumthing...and u can usually find discounts to some shows last minute.
Are you coming alone or with family/friends. You can also take a 1 1/2 - 3 hour cruise around manhattan, they even have brunch/dinner cruises with entertainment like on the Spirit of NY or NY Waterway. Also some very good comedy clubs that are fun to try. You can try the 'Comedy Cellar' at the Olive Tree Cafe in the village on 3rd n mcdougal. Also Laugh Lounge isn't bad, or more expensive would be Caroline's.
Also it may be touristy but the NY Aquarium is nice, so is the Bronx Zoo. You can also head over to NJ shore and hit the beaches, Point Pleasant isn't bad, and Belmar is nicer. Or drive into the Hamtons in long island......but too much for 1-2 days i guess.
thanks! very helpful info afro sheen! :)
recommend some good restaurants ?
Re: What to do in NY for a day or two?
Bubba Gump Shrimp Co is good in Times Sq.
Dunno you cant go too wrong, there’s sooo much variety. Visit the halal gyro truck on 56th n madison i think…its pretty good deal for $5. If not you can visit Afghan Kebab house or Pamir…they’re both good, but dont remember addresses. Hmm are you strict about halal? Try www.zabihah.com
it will give u listing of halal places by location in the city…mariacchi’s mexican is good

Re: What to do in NY for a day or two?
Do NOT try to go to the top of the Empire State Bldg or try to go to the Statue of Liberty, it is PEAK tourist and field trip season. We made the mistake of going to the top of the Empire State this time of the year and it took 3 hours just to get to the top, it sucked royally.
Re: What to do in NY for a day or two?
the top of the empire st building is OK...not all that...same with statue of liberty...never quit eunderstood all the hype. Sadly those are few of the must-do places for out of town guests :(
Re: What to do in NY for a day or two?
Why don't you visit timesquare?

Theres a lot to do at timesquare, THeres the famous comedy club
Theres ripleys believe it on not. wax museum and soo soo many things.
Re: What to do in NY for a day or two?
Believe it or not but chicken rice is the ultimate manhattan experience.
Re: What to do in NY for a day or two?
I cant believe people wait on line for more than an hour there!! Not sure if everyone knows this, but the gyro guy across the street are the same people, same food, at least last time I checked.
Re: What to do in NY for a day or two?
Actually now they gyro place is express. Its very fast now.
Your not going to wait more than 10 min.
And the guys on the other corner are not the sample people.
You can try it. The taste is different too.
But since you already been to the gyro place u might want to try something different.
Try going to Seaport in manhattan.
Saturdays are always good for seaport.
