Matam-e-Hussain (a.s.) is a way we give Bibi Fatima (a.s.) pursa for Her Son Hussain (a.s.)..what if ur sick comment upsets Bibi (a.s.)?
besides why does it hurt you if we cut ourselves?
tums..there are great majalis online from many different scholers
in a majlis you will learn many many fazayels of Prophet (pbuh&up) and offspring of Prophet (pbuh&up) and masayab of Imam Hussain (a.s)

Dude show some respect. Sunnis are suppose to respect Ashura the same way as Shia do. They have a different way we have a different way. You dont have to cut your self up to show respect if you dont want to. Keep a roza or something or do something else.
Tums, I wouldnt know much details about it. All i know we are suppose to be very respective and not play loud music and do something that would be the mean of disrespecting this month just like Ramadaan.

Read or listen to the events of Karbala.
Reflect on it
learn from it
and realise how MUCH the children of our Prophet (pbuh) had to go through just for sake of our religion, kitnee kitnee kurbaniyan yet KIYA hal ho gaya hai aj musalmano ka.

Haroon, these questions have been raised a million times, even by me...
These are questions to be discussed between scholars and there are no Shia scholars here to answer your questions...
I suggest unless you can find a Shia scholar to argue your points, leave it be...You will only succeed in creating misunderstandings...You will ask, they might misconstrue as a mockery and things will go out of hand...

our stuff gives Islam a bad face? maybe u are right..a muslim is suppose to be khilafat hungry..muslim is suppose to fight against the Family of the Prophet (pbuh&up)..muslim is suppose to kill the grandson of Prophet (pbuh&up) and take the grand daughther through the bazaar of shaam without Rida..if this is how muslims are then we dont wana be muslims
besides if someone doesnt have respect for Holy Imam (a.s.) there is no point arguing with them
cant believe in this day and age there is stil so much jihalaat...
Haroon Khalid... instead of debating with someone... and being nothing short of rude... go to a website... www.ashura.com and there are so many more different ones..... go to a majlis... listen to the scholars... you dont have to do matham... Matam is a very emotional gesture... you dont 'do' it.. you feel it...
its strange... cant explain it..
but please dont be rude.
Re: what to do during Muharram?

fasting on the 10th day of muharram has nothing to do with the tragic events of the day. the whole fasting deal is related to some other historic event. Imam Hussain(A.S.) and his family were NOT fasting during those days. they were with faqaa and iss liay 10th muharram ko hum loag faqaa kartay hain namaz-e-asr tak, which is the time of Imam Hussain (A.S)'s shahadat.
