What to bring

One of my students, who is observing the fast for Yom kippur today, invited my husband and me over to break our fasts together and have dinner. I thought this was a very sweet gesture.

I’d like to bring something. Any suggestions?

Re: What to bring

A chocolate babka?

Re: What to bring

hehe not a bad idea.

the other problem is that all the kosher bakeries are closed today for the holiday. i may look around a bit more. otherwise, maybe a basket of fruit or something.

Re: What to bring

Take something from your own country.

Re: What to bring

^The problem is the kosher restrictions. Otherwise I'd make pakoray or samosas or something.

Re: What to bring

Pakoray are not kosher? lol

Re: What to bring

Some people have very strict rules -- even non-meat items need to be cooked in pans where only kosher foods have been cooked, in order to be technically kosher.

I don't think this family is that strict, but on a holiday, they might be more observant.

Re: What to bring

a lot of chocolate.. always works..:biggthumb

Re: What to bring

Maybe Bakhlava? :)

Re: What to bring

Take some kosher deli meat tray. Or the fruit basket is not a bad idea.

Also, every supermarket has a kosher section...check and see there.

Re: What to bring

I found a kosher honey cake with an orange glaze. it was delicious.

and flowers.

thanks for the input, guys!

Re: What to bring

Sahar how do u know it was delicious? :o

Re: What to bring

^ ever though she got to eat it at the jewftaari?

Re: What to bring

take a dozen Hebrew National hot dogs

Re: What to bring

Take a nice challah bread with raisins and cinnamon. It is a jewish holiday bread.

Re: What to bring

I was hesitant about bringing something too Jewish, because they would probably know how to get the best quality ones, and I'd just be bringing somethign that seemed nice, but I didn't really know how to distinguish.

Anyway, yes I ate the cake at the "jewftaari."

Re: What to bring

lol at jewftaari :hehe:
