What to ask an extremist?

A fictitious scenario.

You live in a country in the western hemisphere on our God’s green Earth. Lets say you are sitting hanging out, eating fries and toasted cucumber sandwiches or whatever you do. You are muslim. This is a non muslim country, in which there is a cafe, associated with a certain disliked country in the middle east. Suddenly you see a person, stopping at the cafe’s counter and order something to drink. They share certain characteristics with you, and you immediately recognize this person’s “religion” from their demeaner. They too are Muslim.

You don’t take much notice at first, but as they lean over the counter to order whatever they order, you see a book that falls out from their grasp. It preaches hate, and is literature written by some self righteous religious gentlemen in Pakistan or maybe Egypt or something. You have heard of this book and it preaches and promotes negative stereotypes about other muslims, and non muslims alike.

At first you think its just a book. Anyone can buy it Then you see hand written notes that also spill out from that book. You can’t help but glimpse at the scribes as you help the person pick them up. They are filled with similar extreme views of a certain TYPE of extremist Muslim. Justification of suicide bombings, hard line on other muslim sects, and violence as a certain necessity. The few lines you manage to read give you the impression that this person is who you now think he is. You certainly disagree with their world view.

You say salams, and offer them a seat. They sit down, and you mention you wish to talk about islam. They comply. What do you ask them?
