It’s often said that you need a “good figure” to pull off a sari. That’s just a bunch of hogwash cuz a person with a good figure can pretty much wear anything and look good…so I wanted to start a thread and discuss what styles and types of clothing suit what body shapes.
It’s a well known fashion fact that choosing a certain style can help you enhance certain features and play down others that need not be as obvious.
How does this apply to desi attire? For example…women that are less than average height and a little on the full-bodied side, don’t look as attractive in saris as taller women do.
If you were to classify body shapes to categories and then point out which styles suit which, where would the following outfits fall:
Kameez Shalwar - Short Kameez, full gher shalwar
Kameez Shalwar - Long Kameez, full gher shalwar
Kameez Pajama - Short Kameez, straight-leg pajama/trouser
Kameez Pajama - Short Kameez, chooridaar pajama
Kameez Pajama - Long Kameez, straight-leg pajama/trouser
Kameez Pajama - Long Kameez, chooridaar pajama
First of all, taller women look better in pretty much everything, so not fair to compare a taller woman to a shorter woman in an outfit. And also it really depends on if someone wants to flaunt a particular "flaw" that to others might look like a fashion-no no..
abt tht i always beleive one should be confident abt how she looks and should knw how to carry a dress its not abt being fat or thin or tall or short but still i have noticed sum dresses dun look good on everyone for instance:
Kameez Shalwar - Short Kameez, full gher shalwar
this dus not look good on short and chubby girls they look more fat and short kameezes make them look fatter and sorr y to say really wierd Kameez Shalwar - Long Kameez, full gher shalwar
this combo i dun like for anyone but long kameezes for me look good only on tall and model like figures....
Kameez Pajama - Short Kameez, straight-leg pajama/trouser
this would look fabulous on taller girls and girls a bit more on fatter side cuz i guess skinny girls look skinnier in capris or trousers i really wanna wear em but its just tht ppl tell me i look more skinny in em :( so i dun wanna wear em but i luvvvvvvv straight pants Kameez Pajama - Short Kameez, chooridaar pajama
this dus not look really good on skinny and short girls so the opposite team wins this dress :)
Kameez Pajama - Long Kameez, straight-leg pajama/trouser
this is good for tall and short girls both i have heard it is said shorter ppl should wear longer shirts so they look taller.....but very skinny and tall ppl should avoid this dress as they would look like a ummm well...
**Kameez Pajama - Long Kameez, chooridaar pajama
**will look good on everyone except i guess some very healthy figures
Sari - Thin Border
thin to normal borders r a good choice for thinner ppl and dusnt really matter for fat ppl they can wear it too Sari - Wide Border
**this would not look so good on petite girls wid small framed body, short height and skinny....so heavy ppl good news u can go wid it ...wide borders look goods on ppl having wide shoulders
**Lehnga - Full gher
skinny ppl and tall ppl Lehnga - Mermaid
not good for very skinny ppl but better off for healthier ppl but not good for ppl having a very heavy bottom Lehnga - Straight skirt aka Laacha
awsome for tall model like figurs and not bad for short smart ppl either
Gharara
i think fatter ppl should avoid gharara as tht would make them look more healthier Sharara
whereas sharara is a good option for healthier ppl
IMO the appearance of an outfit is largely dependant on wearing proper undergarments. Time and time again my mum and grandma used to tell us this, but I only believed it when I sw it on fashion programmes.
