For my engagement party, my mom found this really beautiful outfit which we both loved, later the tailor lost the sleeves tht she was supposed to attatch during alterations...My mom looks pretty young (ppl say she looks like 28-30) and doesnt dress or look like an aunty. She was considering still wearing it but I told her no way cuz my inlaws are soooo conservative. So she got another outfit which is green and red... its a long, fitted kurta with churidaaar :)

I think the best thing to do is wear a soft color in a very high quality fabric, with little or no kaam.

For my wedding, my mother wore a pear-colored sari. I've also seen relatives wear ghararas also, lavender, mauve, pink, gold, but very soft and subtle designs on them.
