Re: What should i do?

a part time job and part time school might balance off both things .. both will take longer (your graduation and getting out of debt), both will progress simultaneously.

Re: What should i do?

Part time job is a good idea.

Also, I don't know how it is in Canada, but in US, if you work full time for a university, they allow you to take classes at the university for free. I know a couple of people who do this. They work full time during the day and then take classes part time.

I would advice you not drop college.. as long as you are studying something that will get you a good job after graduation, keep studying. Otherwise, you'll be stuck in a dead-end kind of job.

That's not true at all... other wise in this recession / worst economic time there would be A LOT of exchange of work for education.

but there is hardly any work!

I'm not saying that you are guaranteed a job but if you do manage to get a job in this economy, part of the benefits package of a university job is tuition remission for upto a certain number of credits per year. I actually got offered this from a university in DC about a year ago. It's not exactly "work for education," it's a way to ensure employee retention since the employee is likely to keep working at least until their education is complete. Also, it's not just universities, a lot of corporations like Bank of America also offer tuition assistance for their employees as part of the benefits package.

Re: What should i do?

hey there,

yeah like others said dont drop college. have faith in ALLAH.

u can start applying n maybe get a part time job or start tutoring kids. it's good money and normally u dont have to spend too much time if u get 3-4 kids together. if u r in canada, have u applied for OSAP? there r these grants offered once u apply for OSAP for low income students n u maybe eligible. also u can always apply for private education loans at banks. the loan wud help u invest in ur education without upsetting ur house budget. it would increase ur debt but u can always pay for it later.

also one thing u wana keep in mind that go in a field of study which u wud enjoy and wana get into and has demand. most college progs are 3 years. it's going to be tough for 3 years n IA life wud b set after tat. also during summer u can take time off or go to school part time n work full time to make up for months when u attended school in terems of finances. i think u shud stay in college.

Good luck.

p.s. i notice a lot of grammar errors but too lazy to fix it.

Re: What should i do?

yes take a student loan. later u can get some concession from govt and u dont repay the whole amount if u r low income. no dont quit. u'll make thru InshAllah. bad times come n go. they r not for ever.

Re: What should i do?

BEEN THERE AND DONE THAT.................LESSON TO BE LEARNED IS: DO NOT DROP OUT OF SCHOOL.

Once you become involved in earning money, having some sort of financial freedom and seeing the results of your employment, it wont be easy to drop it all and go back. However, in the long run...this decision catches up with you. At some point in life, your degree becomes indispensable and you cant move without it. At that point, its also too late sometimes to go back to school and start over.

It is VERY difficult to go back once you drop out. I did it and it was HARD dropping a full time job that was paying so well to finish a degree that wasnt instantly gratifying me.

Bottom line, get a part time job but DO NOT quit school.

yes been there and done that and let me tell you it was worth it. Even though I was doing two jobs to make ends meet. I kept on studying partime, it was not an easy road, even failing a subject here and there. It took me close to seven years to finish my two degrees. But now I graduate in September and could not be happier. Yes its been difficult and I come out of it with a debt of 15K but at least I know that in less than a year my life will finally be on track. No more studying. Please hang on and the best of all I know that once you keep trying god will do wonders and I look back on it without any regrets.

Best of luck...........

thanks to everyone who has replied and t really helps to read that the bad times will go and all the encouragement you have given surely helps!..part time job is something i have to look and Inshallah things will get better as i study too

thanks again

Re: What should i do?

dont drop out of college. keep going inshallah everything will be okay. if things are tough money-wise then get a part-time job. you can work over-time on weekends for extra pay.

best of luck with whatever choice you make. :)

Re: What should i do?

Do as other ppl said. A part time job seems like a good idea.
If you decide to take student loan make sure you don't let
your family use it, they might ask you since things are little tight.

Re: What should i do?

Don't do it! Do not drop out!!. I was in the same situation when I was younger. I was 16, in full-time college (in UK so, that's probably high-school to y'all Americans) and had three part-time jobs going at one point to support myself. Looking back I don't know how I managed it... But I knew I had to go to college and save to go to Uni to better my future. I had loads of trouble at home, with family, money etc etc but I had to focus on college and my part-time jobs and say "stuff it" to everything else.

I finally got into Uni a few years later but unfortunantly in my first year I had a whole other lot of issues to deal with and in the end, a month before my retakes I threw in the towel and quit uni. I found a job within weeks of returning home after quitting uni. After about 9 months, I was on hardly any money after tax deductions, I had to deal with racist managers who blocked any promotion chances I had and I was in a dead end job with no future. So I decided I had to give uni another go. I picked my course very carefully. I did all my research on the uni, the course, the city, everything and two years after I left my first uni, I started at my second. Because I worked 60 hours a week the months before I started uni I didn't need to work in my first year so that was one less worry to deal with. I had to work in my second year as all my savings were spent and that was very stressful juggling the two as I had so much more uni work in the 2nd year than I did the first. My third year was awful, awful I tell you! I was under so much pressure, had health problems, I missed so much uni, had to deal with some psycho-back-stabbing-biatches, was in and out of hospital, had a car crash and was suffering from severe depression... But somehow, by the grace of Allah tallah, I graduated with a First Class Honours degree and landed a graduate job a month after my last exam.

If I had quit college and worked full-time, or if I had never gone back to uni the 2nd time around, I would be in a much worse position now than I was just after I left uni the first time. I would be unemployed now, with huge debts, not be able to buy my own home, be in a much worse state of health and have no future nor anything to look forward to..

I guess what I am trying to say is that all the struggles you are going through now will all be worth it once your dressed in your cap and gown holding your degree certificate in your hand and looking forward to your first graduate job..Then, the world will be at your feet and you can go on to be anything you want to be..

Stick with it and have faith in Allah tallah to help you through it all..

Re: What should i do?

Dont Drop out hun hang in there...its rough times for many around the world!!
