In Chapter 2 Verse 215, Almighty Allah said: “They ask thee what they should spend (In charity). Say: Whatever ye spend that is good, is for parents and kindred and orphans and those in want and for wayfarers. And whatever ye do that is good, -Allah knoweth it well”.
Three questions arise in charity:
1- What shall we give?
2- To whom shall we give? and
3- How shall we give?
Re: What Shall We Give? Whom Shall We Give? How Shall We Give?
Good Topic Masha Allah, there is another verse describing giving for the Love of Allah!
Chapter 2 Verse177: It is not righteousness that ye turn your faces Towards east or West; but it is righteousness- to believe in Allah and the Last Day, and the Angels, and the Book, and the Messengers; to spend of your substance, out of love for Him, for your kin, for orphans, for the needy, for the wayfarer, for those who ask, and for the ransom of slaves; to be steadfast in prayer, and practice regular charity; to fulfil the contracts which ye have made; and to be firm and patient, in pain (or suffering) and adversity, and throughout all periods of panic. Such are the people of truth, the Allah.fearing.
Re: What Shall We Give? Whom Shall We Give? How Shall We Give?
-whatever you can afford to give [cash N kind]
-sadaqa can be goven to anyone other than parents and your own children and spouse. [zakaat can NOT be given to non-Muslims]
-you can give secretly or openly but giving secretly fetches you more reward. you may give directly or through any trustworthy charity organizations.
Re: What Shall We Give? Whom Shall We Give? How Shall We Give?
Walaikumussalam
1-**Those who spend their wealth [in Allah 's way] **by night and by day, secretly and publicly - they will have their reward with their Lord. And no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve. (274)surah al baqarah
Never will you attain the good [reward] until you spend [in the way of Allah] from that which you love. And whatever you spend - indeed, Allah is Knowing of it. (92) surah al i imran
What you love is obviously the wealth!! Spend from your wealth
2-Charity is] for the poor who have been restricted for the cause of Allah, unable to move about in the land. An ignorant [person] would think them self-sufficient because of their restraint, but you will know them by their [characteristic] sign. They do not ask people persistently [or at all]. And whatever you spend of good - indeed, Allah is Knowing of it. (273) surah al baqarah
This ayat explains well, rest about zakat surah toba ayat 60 tells.
3-If you disclose your charitable expenditures, they are good; but if you conceal them and give them to the poor, it is better for you, and He will remove from you some of your misdeeds [thereby]. And Allah, with what you do, is [fully] Acquainted. (271) Those who spend their wealth [in Allah 's way] by night and by day, secretly and publicly - they will have their reward with their Lord. And no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve. (274)surah al baqarah
I think these verses explains well, we should spend the best from wealth or whatever we are spending for the sake of Allah, it is supposed to be the good one as we expect good from others to give us,so if you are giving for the sake of Allah, just think before what you are giving.
Re: What Shall We Give? Whom Shall We Give? How Shall We Give?
because it’s a purely religious obligation and non-Muslims may not want to have any part in the religious affair. besides, Sadaqa [alms] is open to anyone except parents because they are children’s responsibility.
Re: What Shall We Give? Whom Shall We Give? How Shall We Give?
Peace All,
Extracted from the Tafsir of A.Y. Ali: "The answer is here. Give anything that is good, useful, helpful, valuable. It may be property or money; it may be a helping hand; it may be advice; it may be a kind word; “whatever ye do that is good” is charity.
On the other hand, if you throw away what is useless, there is no charity in it. Or if you give something with a harmful intent, e.g., a sword to a mad man, or a drug or sweets or even money to someone whom you want to entrap or corrupt, it is no charity but a gift of damnation.
To whom should you give? It may be tempting to earn the world’s praise by a gift that will be talked about, but are you meeting the needs of those who have the first claim on you? If you are not, you are like a person who defrauds creditors; it is no charity. Every gift is judged by its unselfish character: the degree of need or claim is a factor which you should consider; if you disregard it, there is something selfish behind it.
How should it be give? As in the sight of God, this shuts out all pretense, show, and insincerity."
Re: What Shall We Give? Whom Shall We Give? How Shall We Give?
Allah Loves even the Non-Believers more than a Mother loves her children, so giving charity to non-believers because Allah Loves us all! especially the needy!
