Madrasas are just like any school. There are good schools and then there are bad schools. There are good teachers and there are bad teachers. I don't see a moderate news selling its only a masala news that sells and creates a buzz and sizzles. There are thousands and thousands of madrasas all around the globe and number of kids going to madrasas are countless. If all madrasas are the same then why would people send their love ones to these educational houses. 99.5% parents know where they are sending their kid and they keep a very good track. There is lot of evil happening in so called modern schools too. But its not everywhere. I know my city and I know my schools and I very well know my madrasas....do you ?
in continuation to my post quoted here… after that news police raided that “small time” madarsa in sohrab goth karachi. it turned out that it was not “some” students, the number is between 40-50. and they were kept in basement, all of them chained. some young boys some grown up men even one old man. it doesnt look like they were mere students of that madarsa, looks like there is something more to it. almost every tv channel is covering this news right now.
Not every madrassa is preaching hate and intolerance and not every madrassa mistreats or abuses it's children like here; it w'd be quite wrong to tar every such institute with the same brush. There are some very normal kids from poor backgrounds going to these places esp. in cities like Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi because their parents just cannot afford to educate them in better schools
That being said I accept that there are some madrassas where such abuse probably occurs on a daily basis & the government must act against them (if it has n't already)
I don't know why you bring topics here that are designed to defame Islam ...
I am a Hindu/Jews agent.
One way you are accepting it happened well lets say 10 out of thousand, what do you want to do about it. bury it by saying bringing into mainstream will defame Islam. Thank You.
on the other hand i see a major shift in the behavior of western newspapers who are publishing news of wrong doings of priest every other day.
there are many subjects in Pakistan which we consider taboo and this is one of it. No body have courage to talk about in mainstream media, just like they can't openly talk about corruption by our Generals.

Anyone in Pak who had a mobile phone in the 90s would be rich, living in rich areas ... and by the sound of it the molvis are not asking for the sort of thing you would expect a rich community to have ...

the mobile phone services were launched in 90s which means the article is talking about the period from 90 to 99. the article never said it happened in one year, so stop being ridiculous. i had a freaking cellphone in 1995 when i was in school.

yup and also an hindu agent with my handlers being RAW/Khaad/Mossad.
i didn't said anywhere it happened in every single madrassa but it happen in quite a lot. i have a fundamental different with people who support education of madrassa, they are just creating lonny/tonnies who have no idea their is world exist after the boundaries of madrassa.
these are not isolated incidents, madrissah in KP/FATA/Southern Punjab are fill with such crap actually worst then that. Pakistan have to make a clear policy how the hell madrissah will operate in future, the old model is not working at all, period.
Who can take you seriously after posting such trash from a trashy website? Then you have the nerve to have a smirk? Typical.
If you had presented this issue in a serious light, maybe people would be discussing this and saying shabash to you for bringing it up. But no, you had to pick the worst piece of trash propaganda piece and boast about how you’re holier than all.
Firenze, some people in this world follow like zombies and become tools, be they religious or secular. Guess which one are you!

typical most of you lot have nothing else except labeling secular, begharait, hindu, jews .. and keep rolling.
same stuff happened with every sane person in the society of Pakistan when we talk about such fked up issues like child molestation, taliban, america, israel, kashmir, western education, girls education, Paarda issue, hudood ordinance.. ...etc...etc.
^^ similarly the rightists are all labelled ghairat brigade, anyways there are good and bad madrasahs there is no two ways about it. But we should also keep in mind that a big proportion of the madrasahs provide free education, food and shelter to a large number of poor students. If there are proofs of wrongdoings of some madrasahs they need to be brought to justice through the justice system available.

Did you actually read what you posted or you just saw headline, skimmed thru 1st few paragraphs and copy/pasted here?
How old were you in 1995? which areas have "one of of biggest madrassahs"? 'burqas necessary'.....
@Southie , about the first point where you quoted me, i wont say the system is air-tight, no its not, but all cases i've seen in recent past (of course through media) were dealt reasonably well, and by that i mean heard by court (sentences handed) and covered by media. but of course like most of the laws there may be many loopholes here and there will definitely be a room for improvement That is why one needs to pursue all avenues available, including blogs
as for "either or" case, well at least i've not seen any rant (why use the word rant??) of such blogs ending up in the court, and don't expect courts to take actions on such blanket accusations, where all the accuser mentions is "a big madarsa in karachi" "all the qari sahabs and nazim/naib nazim" "dont send children to madarsa" etc... That is just your opinion, based on the fact that "you have not seen such blogs end up in court system". Blogs are new medium - so in future, there is no reason to believe they wont work in exposing such acts. If the accuser's identity is known through the blog, law enforcement authorities can easily locate the said school.
this is more like another case of blowing things out of proportion and attempt of throwing dust on religious figures and madarsas (as people said above), than an attempt to solve the problem.
Just because some people said above dont make it true. You have your bias. I have none. I neither will jump to the conclusion this blog is true nor will I jump to opposite conclusion.
what do you mean which areas have the ... biggest?
11 and you had a cell phone in Pakistan that you took to school/madrassah? I want to see what bridge you are selling.
