The fact is that intoxicants were strictly forbidden in Holy Quran. This has been made clear if you read and recite Holy Quran with translation. It is strictly forbidden to offer or attend prayers while being in the condition of being intoxicated. Muslims were given orders many times to abstain from this act and staying away from its consumption as well. In the first verse cited, the word for intoxicated is regarded as sukara which is derived from “sugar” and it means drunk and intoxicated.
The last messenger of Almighty Allah cursed ten people who have connection with the wine, the wine presser, the one who presses it, the one who drinks it, the one who conveys it, the one to whom it is conveyed, the one who serves it, the one who sell it and the one who gets benefit from it, the one who buys it and the one from whom it was bought. Even the prayers of the person are not accepted in this condition and state. The verse that does not mention the drink makes it so. However, in the next verses cited, the word that is translated as wine or intoxicants is al-khamr, this is very much related to verb to ferment. This word is used best to describe various intoxicants like beer, although wine is regarded as the most common understanding of word.
Muslims understand and follow these verses by staying away from the intoxicating substances like beer, whiskey or wine as well. The result will be the same and Quran says that it is the intoxication because of which a man forgets his prayers and Allah, which is very harmful. Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) has also instructed his followers at a certain time to avoiding and staying away from the intoxicating substances if it intoxicates in the larger amount. It is not even allowed in a small form.
