What Paks can learn from the failures of Tipu Sultan / Ottomans

History is a great learning tool if it is viewed with as little “religious” or “ethnic” bias as possible. Why I say “as little”, because as human beings we cannot reduce the bias to zero, however we can bring it down to a “manageable” level.

Many in Pakistan blame Mir Jafar /Mir Sadiq etc. for the demise of the primitive governments such as Maysoor or Bengal.

The reality is that one person cannot be responsible for such huge and catastrophic events like destruction of the whole country.

Therefore we must view our history from different angles, the angle that are free from obvious Islamic or religious bias, or ethnic or anti-European bias.

This is important. Because when a so-called Muslim leader won a war with Europeans, then by deduction, the Europeans must have had the equivalents of Mir Jafars in their ranks too.

But we seldom see that a typical Muslim win over European crusaders was attributed to the one crusader general going rogue and joining Salahuddin’s army. No! In most cases, we attribute Salahuddin’s win to his superior tactics and war-fighting skills.

Thus if we want to be honest, we should use the same standards and consider the superior war-fighting skills of the European for their wins over Tipu, Siraj, or Sultans of turkey

The real reasons of win or defeat is thus intertwined with a nation’s specialists like perhaps those of a cricket team.

A good cricket team is balanced as it is built by uniting specialists such as bowlers, openers, wicket keepers, middle order batsmen, all rounders, and last but not least spinners and fielders.

For the nations such as Pakistan, it is important to realize that today and perhaps for the last 500 years, we as human beings have been living in the “AGE of SPECIALIZATION”.

Why? because the HUMAN intellect has grown to a level that someone needs lifetime of work to figure one tiny aspect of a given field.

These days we have “specialists” who mostly get “formal” training AND “on the job” internship, then they get CERTIFIED and then they are considered specialists.

If a bearded man in the mosque wants to be a “specialist” then he must show his competency before we as a society accept him to be such.

An average educated Pakistani never allows Mullahs to give opinions in many “specialized” fields such as engineering, and medicine etc. Or in other words Mullahs do not venture to offer their suggestions in building a bridge, or treating a heart patient.

Why? because WE the people would laugh at them. We the people would prefer that a civil engineering team helps us build a bridge, or a team of surgeons and cardiologists treat a heart patient.

However

We the Pak people have given up OUR control on the following important specialized fields. Instead of discrediting or laughing at Mullahs and other nutcases, we allow them to make policies. Sad isn’t it?

  1. System of government
    — that allows country to learn from other countries and improve the governance

  2. System of economy
    — that allows a country to constantly update their economic model to match with the modern demands.

  3. System of global relationship:
----- that allows a country to survive in today’s global village.

  4. System of education
    — that allows a country to prepare the next generation that makes the country prosperous and stable.

It is us the Pakistanis who have allowed Mullahs and other mafiosos to take over the reigns in the fields listed above.

Look how we are destroying ourselves by letting NON-specialists to run these important fields.

A – System of governance.
Year in and year out, we elect our “executive branch” who have ZERO experience.

BB, ZAB, Zardari, Altaf, Imran, Qazi etc. have not run even a small city government of Cheecha watni, and yet we the Pakistani people let their BAD vision to lead our system of government of the WHOLE of Pakistan.

We never demand or may be ask Imran, Altaf, or Zardari, keh Sahib zara mehrabani farmayeen aur pehlay ja ker ek small city ki government to run kerain. Phir hum aapko chance daingay Mulk ko chalanay kay leeay.

And guess what? the result have been catastrophic for our system of government with untold atrocities and resulting military takeovers.

B – System of Economy.
Modern economy is very very complicated and it is changing at a break neck speed. And yet many of us go to economically-donkey Mullahs, and equally ignorant politicians and let them develop policies that impact our tax structure, our industry, and our exports.

C – System of Global relationships

Today no country can survive in isolation. China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, India are clear examples that a country must be connected positively in the global structure. Otherwise the country becomes very quickly a basket case even if it has natural resources (read Iran).

And yet we allow third rate Mullahs, politikos, and petty journalists to grab our noses and move us around like little kids.

The result has been horrible for Pakistan’s global role.

D-- System of education

I wanted to discuss this as the last point, because it is the MOST important point that perhaps drives ALL other fields being discussed here.

And guess what, we the Pak people have willingly allowed bekar Mullahs to take over a large portion of our school system.

Even the school that are not run by Mullahs, are packed with mental-rubbish that is destroying our youth and turning them into anti-global, caveman Jihadis.

Our students care more about What Amreeka and Mossad is doing,

And the same students give a damn to what Pakistanis THEMSELVES are doing to their own country.

Our students are devoid of innovative thinking, they lack the deep desire to learn about the universe, and pathetically ignorant of the needs of our country so that our beautiful country could become prosperous and peaceful.

It is time that we take the reigns of these fields in OUR OWN hands, and DONOT let a 2-bit Mullah in the guise of an Alim to give any opinion.

It is time, we respect and follow the SPECIALISTS (even Christians, JEWS, HINDUS, etc. ) to guide us in the right direction aka Sirat e mustaqeem.

Then only then, our country will be back on its feet, and our people will live in peace and harmony, and we will not be walking around with a begging bowl in our hands.

Amen.

p.s. This post is derived from another thread. I felt that a separate thread will be more suitable instead of lumping all this with other threads. Thank you.

Good :)

Yes indeed very good.

Re: What Paks can learn from the failures of Tipu Sultan / Ottomans

good stuff

Good post , :)
We should be Capable of Taking the initiative instead of relying on others to it for us.

Re: What Paks can learn from the failures of Tipu Sultan / Ottomans

Its also unfortunate the way we teacj history to our kids or how we were taught history. While my 6-7 year old kids are learning how vikings made shipsm what kind of wepons scythians used etc, all i read til college about Tipu and others of our warriors is just, how the war started and what was the result, without any knowledge what so ever of weapons, formations or techniques.

The Indian media claims that Pakistan skips over the history of the Pakistani region during the periods it was under the influence of Hindu and Buddhist kings. This claim is contrasted with the view that Indian history books do not skip the periods under the Delhi Sultanate and the mughals. This is used to show the superiority of Indian history books over the Pakistani ones. How true is this claim?

^^ No need to cry about high school level history.

Every country including India mutilates and remanufactures their high school history books.

Remember! High school education CANNOT be all encompassing education.

We all should know that the first 10-12 grades prepare you HOW to read and write.

That's all.

The real AWARENESS starts after you graduate from High school, and search for your knowledge from the libraries and universities BY YOURSELF.

When you as person develop "critical thinking" that makes you challenge all the existing dogmas, and question the moribund thoughts.

Pakistanis are suffering because they in general DO NOT make and effort to learn beyond the high school history books aka Mutala-e-Pakistan.

Indians too are suffering because they too carry the hate for Pakistan in their hearts and in their minds thanks to the poorly written Indian high school level history books. However this thread is not about indians. And this reference is made only to point out that we all must continue learning LONG after the high school graduation.

The fault lies with us and not some government baboo in the education ministry.

Yes every country does that. I have never taken a effort to learn history by myself, but i have read enough to notice how the text book interpretations of Indian history changes from a Congress govt to a BJP govt. This is enough to guess that neither is presenting a complete picture.
