hmm i think all the reasons everyones given so far are the things that motivate the heads of extremist organizations such as taliban...
the motivation for the bulk of these organizations (grassroots level members) are different...lets not forget that the lower level members of these organizations (the ones who carry out the suicide bombing, attacks, etc. are very poor people)...what motivates them is what motivates everyone...they live in societies where the income disparity between the rich and the poor keeps growing, their kids cant go to school, they are ridiculed, oppressed, have no rights...then suddenly some mullah comes along talking about grand things (god, heaven, hell, god-world relations, etc), gives them food to eat, takes their kids into a madressa where they are kept fed and clothed and makes them part of this 'brotherhood' where they are suddenly given respect and their rights are protected...okay i'll stop here lol, its just such a depressing situation and its our own fault
