Major companies in the States are doing without the contract. Even those w/contracts are in the process of ridding the contract. The drawback is buying the phone full price, either upfront or installments.

Most the time it’s cheaper to just buy the phone upfront and get the offers available on payg. I can’t believe people in the UK are willing to pay £45-55 per month for 24 months just to get the latest phone. It’s madness.
