What measurements are required for excellent fit

salam.

I have ordered many suits in the past but is rare that the fitting is perfect. I always have have alterations. How is at possible to have excellent fitting the first time without multiple alterations. In fact in the past there is more of a chance that a readymade garment fits me better/perfectly than a custom tailored one. What measurements are required so we get right the first time.

Also i’m in USA so how should measurements be given so that the tailors understand.
should body measurements be given (but most tailors don’t undertstand this) or should shirt measurements be given?

For ex: shirt measurement will be

for chest: 19 as opposed to 36 which is round measurements

I’m not bulky and in fairly good shape but clothes fitting is a huge problem for me and now if i’ m going to make this a business venture it’s even more important.

All the desigeners and home based folks please help out.

Re: What measurements are required for excellent fit

generation sizes usually work best. if you know what generation size you are then you can have the designer work around that. plus minus an inch or 2. other than that it is always best to provide designer with your height and weight. it doesnt make much sense but it works.

where can i find out about generation sizes? I actually fit very well into most Ladies Medium sizes. I just wonder what measurement chart these readymade companies use. Like what measurement do they use for shoulder, armhole...

any help will greatly be appreciated. Its hard to take good measurements here in US. the taillors/dressmakers require different measurements and they are usually for form fitting clothing.
