Well, mashaAllah your questions are very deep and thought provoking, I am not sure if my following reply does justice with the original question that was asked as I might have misunderstood your question.
I think it might not depend upon the gender, but the individual's personality and the way one thinks and feels about relationships.
If I have to distinguish on the basis of gender, than in most cases of girls emotions plays the main role so heart is more involved, and among guys logic plays the main role so mind is more involved in maintaining TRUST in a relationship.

no brother STP, you are fine. as you understood is fine. definitely personalities factor in, so do the honesty of personalities. these relationships are perhaps world's most risk-laden ones, because the trust can easily be broke.
so, ideally everyone must guard ownselves and encourage others to do the same for the person that they are commited to happily and truly for life.
