Your post reminds me of another post that appeared on a 'Muslim families' section of famililes.com. OP is a converted American Muslima married to an Egyptin guy.
Since due to my low post count I can't post a link, I am copying and pasting the original post below:
My husband and I have been together about 10-11 years. About 4 months ago, he started to wear his underclothes in the shower. Being the one that CLEANS the shower....after 4 days or so of finding the underclothes wet in the corner I asked him....what in the world is going on in the shower?
He told me that he wears his shorts in the shower because "we are never alone. Allah is with us ALWAYS". While I don't disagree with that at all...(that we are not alone). I also feel that we have nothing Allah is not aware of, and that cleaning is cleaning. As long as you stick to the task at hand, I don't understand the need to hide.
Is this something "in the books?" or...did he make that one up?
I have been wondering for months, but never had the right place to ask.

I would have told that idiot husband that Allah is not a man.
They we feel when we look at other people -- probably allah won't feel same way.
When we say allah is watching us.
It may not mean a entity with 2 eyes and a binoculars in his hand.
I can't help appreciating Hazret ali's saying "allah is not what you could think of him"
"Allah ko jesa tum samjthy ho woh wesa naheen"
Hazret Ali said that when he was asked what allah swt was.
