Well?
a belief in oneness of allah and prohethood of mohammad.
( if someone says that finality of prophethood is a fundamental beleif for being amuslim, then he must quote a valid reference from an islamic scripture. )
Dear Kasmirigirl,
Dee Dee gave an excellent answer, Masha'allaah, to this qestion in the thread by Jewels named 'Dear dee dee' on this forum. Please read Dee Dee's first post (2nd post on the thread).
regards
Jewels,
Dee Dee also gave you a clear verse from the Qur'aan, where Allaah (subhaan wa ta'aala) states that Muhammad (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) is the final Messenger, which you ignored:
"Muhammad (SAW) is not the father of any man among you, but he is the Messenger of Allâh and the last (end) of the Prophets. And Allâh is Ever AllAware of everything." [Al-Ahzab - 33:40]
You chose to ignore this verse, yet you are the one who opened the thread to deabate. And in your opening post you said, and i quote:
" ...i realize, that i might be wrong. i am looking forward to a reply. if i'm wrong, then i need to be corrected."
And indeed Dee Dee did correct you, but even so, you rejected the versus of Allaah ... the sign of arrogance - when the truth comes to you, you reject it.
"But those who disbelieve and belie Our Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) such are the dwellers of the Fire, they shall abide therein forever." [Al-Baqarah - 2:39]
Dear Kashmiri Girl,
To be a Muslim one’s aqeedah has to be saheeh; this includes apart from the kalimah of shahadah believing in the following beliefs which follow from saying La ilaha il Allah Muhamadur Rasool Allah sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam.
-
The Tawheed of Allah and it’s implications. This includes knowing about the Attributes of Allah. eg He has no beginning nor end.
-
Nabbuwat. What it is and the Finality of Prophet Muhammad sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam;
the attributes of a Nabi. eg infallibility.
The finality of Habib Allah’s prophet hood is proven from explicit verses and hadiths; these are called NASS. Any one who desbelieves in even one nass is an infidel no matter if he says the kalimah or not. Beleif in everything which Habib Allah said as being absolutely true.
. -
Believe in angels, the heavenly revealed books, all the Prophets, the DAy of Judgement, Heaven and Hell as actual places which exist, Qada and QAdr – ie that all things are from Allah, the sweet of it and the bitter of it. If someone tries to ezplain away any of these figuratively he is a kaafir because these are proven from explicit verses from Qur’an and sahih hadith.
-
belief in the mutawaatir hadith; to deny a mutawwatir hadith is like denying the Qur’an and is kufr. Because these are hadiths with so many chains of narration that it is impossible for them to be NOT from Rasool Allah sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam. If a person denies a single mutawaatir hadith he is a kaafir [because it is tantamount to saying the The Beloved of Allah–naudhubillah–was wrong.]
-
Belief in Qur’an. Every letter, dot, and word is the Uncreated Speech of Allah. If someone believes the Qur’an to be created he is a kaafir. As Speech [kalaam] is one of the Attributes of Allah and thus eternal.
There are many other things which come under aqeedah and HAVE to be learnt by a Muslim once he or she comes of age [puberty] ; those who do not know the aqeedah at that time become renegades from the religion [before that you are considered not responsible in Shariah and in the religion of your parents].
A detailed explanation of the basics of the religion is given here:

hmm
thanks
...my response might not be liked.
I think anyone who believes in Allah's(swt) will...and that he has made everything we see, we don't see and everything on this world and others...is a muslim.
don't they say all children are born muslim..it is their parents that make them another religion?
which is why i don't think you have to be titled a muslim..to go to heaven. But, that is what i think and i guess we'll all find out someday. :)
Dear Kashmirigirl,
Yes you are absolutely right that all people are born Muslim ... then it is the parents who make the child Jewish or Christian or any other religion.
However, if you look back into history, during the time of Muhammad (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam), then the pagans of that time also believed in the Will of God, and that He created everything and had the Power to determone all things.
Yet in the Qur'aan, Allaah condemns their actions because they worshipped idols. He also says, those amongst them who did not revert to Islaam, will be from amongst the dwellers of Hell Fire. Please forgive me for not providing any references, as i am rushed for time at the moment, but Insha'Allaah, if time permits, i will try and do so today.
Thanks for reminding me about the child being born a Muslim. To be honest that had slipped my mind.
W'salaam,
kind regards
Dear Kashmiri girl :)
To answer you even in the kalimah--which is the least thnig required to be a Muslim you have to affirm two things 1) the tawheed of Allah and 2) the Prophethood of Rasool Allah sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam.
A person who believes in the first part but not in the second is NOT a Muslim. He/she is a muwaahid.
As for the hadith you mentioned, yes all children are born Muslims and are made whatever they are by their parents; yes, in Shariah this is applied UNTIL the onset of puberty. Once a person reaches puberty he is consdiered responsible and is no longer considered on the religion of his parents. That's why it is WAJIB for Muslims, whe they reach puberty, to learn their aqeedah for themselves. (eg ask their parents if they know or ask a scholar if not). Those who reach puberty and do not know their aqeedah become renegades according to shariah. That is why during nikaaH ceremonies the maulvi usually asks the bride and groom to recite the kalimahs as well--to renew the imaan as
marriage to renegades is not allowed. wallahu aalam.
Finally, our beliefs are based on Qur'an and Sunnah NOT what we personally feel or think. This holds no water in Islam.
"It is not befitting for believers to have an opinion on a matter when Allah and His Messenger have already decided on it" (paraphrase of Quran shareef meaning)
That's why I advise you as a well-wisher to read my post below entitled "What Muslims must believe...aqeedah.." :)
I hope this helps :)
