Is it some internal guilt for not being able to do much about improvement of your identity, your ideology, etc.
or it has more to do with external factors like popular propaganda.

for whom the right is one with greater wealth/power would easily fall prey to popular propaganda. internal guilt rather make us humble and bowing in front of Allah.

is the wealth (being wealthy) a criteria for being right and imposing right? May be that wealth came to you through exploiting the weaker.
Don't you think stronger first attack self respect of the weaker to gain its objects?

exactly, once one lost self respect he/she will become appolgetic toward ideology he/she follows.
obviously, the world is following a system which exploits the poor and benifits who is rich already.

People with a sense of what is right or wrong can look inwards. And admit they are wrong at times. And apologize. Sometimes publicly. And that is a good thing, isn't it?

I agree that its a good thing when you apologise after knowing your exact position, but I disagree when it becomes habit. Habit to lose self esteem, habit to surrender without doing SWOT analysis. Most of the time apologetic people concentrate more on Weaknesses and Threats and forget about Strengths and opportunities.
Re: What makes people apologetic?
What is SWOT? Strength, Weakness. What else? Why is apologizing equivalent to surrendering? That would be true IFF we consider life as a constant war. So conceding ones mistakes becomes surrender. I don't understant your confusion that apologetic people concentrate on weakness and threat? Whose weakness? Threat from whom? Or where?
Why is issuing an apology considered equivalent to loss of ones self esteem? On the other hand, it can be said that one with good self esteem and inner strength will recognize and accept ones mistakes. And apologize publicly if he or she considers that appropriate.
Re: What makes people apologetic?
The world would be so much more peaceful if folks and countries would just aclnowledge mistakes, sincerely apologize and move forward. What we see is false pride and ego re ones ideology and position. No matter evidence to the contrary.

OT = Opportunities and Threats.
Apology is a good thing if done in right spirit, but becoming habitual apologetic just because you don't know your strengths and plus points ruins the nations. There is always a way to improve yourself, and if you don't concentrate on your strengths, don't utilise the opportunities under a guilt which has been imposed on you, you will not survive for a long time.
Whether we agree or not this world has become a place where only fittest survive and habitual apologists (who don't know their strengths or don't want to know their strengths) faces the danger of extinction.

The title or the original post does not state anything about habitual apologists. I am not sure I know what that means. And why one should conclude that habitual apologists don't know their strengths.
In your original post, you gave an either/ or choice. That an apologist is one who does so out of guilt but does nothing to improve himself. Or he does it for popular propaganda.
This is an overly simplistic approach. I would argue that the FIRST step towards self improvement should be a recognition of ones mistakes. The second a SINCERE apology. Preferably a PUBLIC apology, if the person was wronged in public. Third : Reparations. Fourth: introspection. Folllowed by steps to not repeat the mistake.
Of course we all have strebgths. And we need to use it to benefit society. But it puzzles me why acknowledging our weakness amounts to "not knowing our strengths".
I think I am beginning to understand why an apology, let alone a public one, is considered a big NO NO in folks with certain "ideologies". Never thought of it thistle way. For me, it is simple. You make a mistake, you sincerely apologize. The consideration of extinction due to apology never occurred to me.

What if you are made realised that you are wrong all the time and there is nothing positive about you and the ideology you follow. For me, its simplistic approach to subscribe to this imposed apology. When this is the behavior, no one talks about improvement. Its simply apology for the apology. self detestation and offering yourself to others for making you what is suitable for them

Where did the question of " imposed apology" even arise? A person on him an apology is IMPOSED need not apologize. I did nit realize that is what we are discussing. I thought we were discussing what makes people apologetic.
I cant speak for others. For me, the realization that I was wrong and have hurt someone is a good enough reason.

We are talking of both kinds of apologies. justified and unjustified. Therefore, I agreed that when its justified, go ahead and accept your mistakes and try to improve yourself.
But There is no blanket idea that apologetic behavior is always good and I think we are on the same page as you also said when apology is imposed, there is no need to be apologetic.
Re: What makes people apologetic?
Becoming compulsively apologetic at a personal or national level is usually caused by some sort of inferiority complex. It is mostly found in those who start believing by themselves, or are made to believe, that they are either not good for anything, or everything bad happens because of them.
And then there are people who have it in their natures. They don't like or can't handle arguments and conflicts. So to avoid and escape them, they take all the blame for everything.. be it right or wrong.. upon themselves.
In any case, it is a damaging approach. More so when adopted by a whole nation.

empathy not sympathy

Thrle title and original post should then read "is apologetic behavior always good?". The answer to that is obvious. No, it is nit always good.
Now let us discuss the case when apology is "imposed". I will modify my earlier response. Sometimes an individual or a country or ideology can be on the wrong side. But said offending party does nit have the inner strength to acknowledge it. In that case, I have no problem with imposition of an apology. And the offending part preferably sees the light, stops being defensive, and apologizes - sincerely.
PS @Philo which post u referring to re emp sympathy.
Re: What makes people apologetic?
The secular nations in particular US,UK, France should apologize to Africa, Asia and latin America for killing millions of people raping these peoples resources and inflicting massive debts on its people leading to them being put in poverty, this is what secular capitalism does to the world!
time for reparations and apologies for these crimes committed!
