r u kiddin me? u try raising ur voice there and then fear that ur wife or daughter will get kidnapped n rapped in the mosque! who is going to listen to u? the police certainly won't. there is no democracy there, its the kingdom. try changing anything and get ur head chopped off in silence. have u been there? seen the ppl? i may be wrong to generalize my opinion to the whole race. u have to go through the things i have seen, heard or experienced first hand , its not the assumption based on reading newspapers or listening to CNN. i was there during gulf war, i know what happened to the families there. i know how maids r treated by these rich *******s. i know what they think of bangladeshis there. i know to them pakistani indians r just "miskeen". they dont respect ppl on the basis of ethnicity, except if u r gora, then they will lick ur ass like u r the God.

where exactly you want me to live in ME to see all this? saudia? been there for years, dubia, 2 years, jordan, 2 years, palestine 1 year, bahrain 7 years , muscat, i go there frequently bcos my parents are there. you see i've lived all my life in ME and i know exactly how bad the situation there is. but to view all and then to become a silent viewer does nothing for anyone except you too become a part of the same system where you have eyes to see, ears to hear but no tongue to say or protest. what good is it of by posting it here and bashing the whole arab race.
first of all i am not making up anything. second dubai hardly has any arab population. so dont compare dubai with kuwait or saudi arabia. and its my opinion , i dont like arabs n i'll say so. u r free to disagree. i think un par jo bhee museebatien hai, Allah ka azaab hai. u live in ur lil bubble where everything is perfect nice n danday.
This is so sick. The maids are treated as working prostitutes, animals and what not. I think south asian countries who send their nationals to serve as "maids" to arab countries, they should make some sort of "union", "association" where a case should be filed for any crime and labor department of that (criminal's) country should be forced to investigate and pay the fine.
They are abused for not being national of a "rich" country.
1) I am not sure of the situation right now, but in the past reporting such problems to police did nothing, media did nto really cover the crimes well. to bring about change would be to expose such practices in foriegn media, and in teh countries whose citizens are being abused, and then brining the govt and human rights groups attention to it. The application of laws to locals and foriegners was quite skewed back in the 80s atleast in KSA, and Kuwait.
2) I believe the event suroor is referrign to is the kidnapping and murder of some girl not at a mosque but during namaaz time when the shops are closed, this allegedly took place in some carpet store and after theyhad their way with her the body was dumped into the manhole opening in the store. I am not sure how authentic this story is but I have heard it from several sources who are not the conspireacy theory buffs. It could however be an urban legend.
3) You guys want to do something about this? get your GS pals and others to write some letters to the embassies of these countries worldwide, to the papers and to human rights groups. This is one of those situations that the involvement of such organizations/offices is critical.
Fraudia, stories you have mentioned are of "civilian" criminals or people in commercial business. I have heard stories of Saudi police doing such crimes, you know they used to ask for iqama all over the country, and if unlucky couple didn't have it they'll pick them both and segregate them and husband never able to see his wife back and then she'll be found dead in some desert.
most of the southasians dont know the laws or not familiar with
harsh punishments . how many were beheaded for drug related
crimes. even somebody puts some drugs in your bags you loose
your life.
Changez like we did hear stories like that, one advantage we had working for us was that we had brit passports and the embassy there takes a very active role in making sure none of their citizens are being mistreated due to which we did not have problems. I still remember the time were gong to Hajj and the shurtaas were giving us a hard time as we were probably just some misleen/sadiq/fareeq to them but when they saw passports plus my dad's Id they straightened up. He reported directly up to a minister for the kingdom's water projects. His role kept us out of major headaches too.
however, I would mention that someone had tried to kidnap me right off of shara-e-washam had it not been for one of my neighbours son, i would have become some pervy arbays byatch for the eve. same thing happened to my brother but right by the school.
and after jummah namaz at the main masjid In Dera, u know right by the square where they behead ppl..I was confused by some arbay jackass as some fun toy..he kept on rubing up against me in teh crowd, i was too young to really know what was going on, but knew something was not right, until i got mad and justpunched him in the ding dongs to which he yelled and screamed at me and my dad..dad wondered what was going on, i was till too unsure and embarassed to tell him what the exact problem was but told him that this guy was pinching me and I hit his hand..
Please, everyone, i did not post this thread to debate whether or not “all” Arabs commit these kinds of atrocities. i recvd a pm from someone inquiring what my purpose was in posting this thread - my purpose was and is simply to raise awareness about this issue. Suroor_CA, Sharaabi, and Zain - you all are manifestly entitled to your personal opinions. Let’s focus on what we CAN do to help women like Kusuma; arguing about how vicious and perverted some people are, is not going to help anyone (i think). :flower1: Everyone is entitled to their own personal beliefs, but i really feel as though the above argument is a futile one. It is not one that will get us anywhere productive.
Here’s the website of Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Employment & Labour with e-mail addresses of everyone including Mahinda Samarasinghe, the one mentioned in the BBC article above http://www.priu.gov.lk/Ministries/Min_Employment&Labour.html Since none of us have Sri Lankan citizenship, they’ll probably chuck our e-mails as soon as they receive them; but whatever - there’s no harm in trying. i really liked Changez’s idea of creating the ‘union’, but sadly i am very doubtful whether the offending country would ever agree to foot the bills for the investigations, etc. Still - i am sure that sending e-mails to the Sri Lankan Minister of Employment & Labour isn’t a completely useless idea; maybe we could all post the responses we receive in this thread after having done so…?
Going by Fraudz assumptions we can assume that every American is a serial killer, a serial rapist, a wife beater, someone who hates Muslims and kills Sikhs by mistakes, abuses the women, is a drug addict…
But oh my god, what am I saying Fraudz…I am so sorry, I spoke about goras this way…I am so sorry, I apologize…
I take it all back…You can only judge all Arabs or Muslims to be bad by a few bad apples, but never goras…I have learnt my lesson and I am truly sorry to say that about your goras…I apologise again…
you have mastered teh art of reading what you want and twsaiting it in whatever way to support your own hypothesis. Nowhere did I say that all arabs are that way, however I challenged someone’s statements that things dont go on in KSA.
I made no “assumptions” as you call them which even hint at all arabs being pervs, but i simply provided examples from personal experience, as well as of what i have heard to propose that there are problems there.
go back and read again, use a dictionary if you must.
There are good and bad people in every society, I have always maintained that. so when someone is going to say that crap dunnhappen in KSA i would oppose it just as if someone said USA is all fine and okay. Had someone been dissin all arabs I would have stood up against it as much as if someone was dissing americans. I do not like generalizations whether they are good or whether they are bad, reality is a mix of both and the levels vary from society to society.
quit looking at everything as black and white. it may result in some personal growth. shabaash
i like to see wht sri lanka is doing for its national in arab world. these so-called stories of brutality and punishment are not hidden and their government is very much aware of it. how come they never protest to the arab world regarding treatment of its nationals in arab world? maybe because it is a multi-million business and these people earn enough to support their families back in sri lanka and also sending in money help government. this is where the whole fault is. government is willing to neglect the treatment of its nationals in arab world for money.

Have you met all 22 different arabs? If you can answer that and tell me that EVERY Arab nation is like that then I will believe you.
Most pakistanis have their views from Arab lands which are mostly the gulf and Saudi, what happen to the rest of the Arab world?

To some extent you are right that not every Arab is same, not every Arab country has oil etc etc. But people who have been to other Arab countries have seen similar attitudes in other countries as well.
May be Fraudia can shed more light, and Thap if he shows up here.

I don't suggest that we become like them and start treating them same as they do to us. But there are limits for a side to go to some extent to achive some "group" thing. A team member can do as much as a "member" can do.
*We call them ignorants not realizing that by answering them in their own way we become like them... *
Again, NO. Pakistanis, including have cried all along "brotherhood, brotherhood, brotherhood" and keep doing that, has it made any impact in "Arab" world yet? Try to find that out.
