I've always had a fascination with computers and IT. I self-taught myself programming in BASIC on the C64. You probably have to be close to my age to know what a C64 was. Hehehe.

And although my dad wanted me to take over his business some day, I'm very grateful to him that he didn't force me into business studies and allowed me to pursue my IT career.

I am a teacher. SO, why did I become a teacher? Because I wanted to become RICH and make MILLIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!! So after getting my Bachelors in Elementary Education.........and of course become FILTHY RICH.......I decided to prove my loyalty to the field of education..........by getting a MASTERS in education as well.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL. I'm kidding. Seriously, I mean it, it wasn't about the money at all!!! I did it for the kids! Honestly! You don't believe me?

I love working with kids. They make you laugh. And it feels good to help make a positive difference in their lives. Plus, no day is the same in teaching, so there's never a dull moment. Every hour, you're teaching a different subject and the kids inspire and entertain you:)

Actually when i was a kid i always wanted to be a teacher rather professor that too of english language :D but when i was in college i developed interest in economic too. When i was doing my graduation i had economics and statistics as mu main subjects. By the time i finished i had three subjects in mind in which i wanted to do masters economics, mass communication or english language. I ended up doing it in mass comm :D I did teaching in a school for about 6 months than got tired and left :D For about 6-8 months i remained unemployed till one day unexpectedly got a call from a news channel to join them as an intern, went for interview got selected and started my career with 5000 RS. That was almost 5 years ago, today i am a Senior Producer at the same channel! So its just a stroke of luck for me :) and i can't thank God enough for it

I think somewhat no. 1:p .. Although it would be my mum. My mom has always had the "dream" that her children should get some high education and a big degree .. it really something she is obsessed with. I think its caused by the fact that her maternal family is very well educated. All her uncles have engineering degrees and her grandfather was in the army as a translator during WW2. Well she wanted me to be a doctor and well I'm doing something along that .. although operating people has never fascinated me, so I'm more into the research of diseases and medical improvement section I would say ..

I wanted to be a journalist.

My dad was having none of that. He said I could write as a hobby. I went to enginerring school.

Good threat.
i always wanted to become a doctor. it was my dream since i was 6 years old (dhoop kiranay corrupted me) i was so fascinated by the hospitals and doctors that i even dreamed about parking my car in the staff only parking space in hospital (he he he, yup, i am crazy)
but i don't think i am smart enough to be a doctor, too much parhai, and too much time *8 years in USA. so i decided to go for Biomedical engineering technology which is also a hospital related job. i will INSHALLAH get to work with docotors, nurses and patiant, learn a lot of cool medical stuff etc.
the moral of the story, you can always be what you want, maybe sometimes not what you want exactly, but maybe something better or close to what to want :)

*i know it's a crappy moral, but u get the point :p

Dad was Doc. Mum was Doc. Then I became Doc. Husband is Doc.

It is never too late to study Medicine in UK or USA. There was a retired teacher in early 40's in my class. I know so many over 30's student studying Medicine. One used to be a plumber who failed at school in his days. After doing plumbing, he did his A-levels and got into Uni! Devotion!

^ Asma44 - I hear you I know a woman that started practicing in her 50s - she did all her studying in her 40s after her kids were in university.

I wanted to be a criminal but found out that is NOT what a degree in criminology teaches you, so decided to do the next best thing and go to business school.

in reality i wanted to be in teh airforce, but that came carshing down due to eyesight, dad is an engineer so he always wanted me to do that but never pressured me, i went into computer engineering, changed to computer science, changed to CIS/MIS, changed to marketing, tacked on international business..by that time my dad had given up asking me what my major was for that year and when ppl asked him what I am majoring in he used to say major has been promoted to colonel now and brigadier any day now.

i really did not know what I want to do, there are still many things that fascinate me the good thing is as a strategy type guy I can get into a number of things, chose consulting as a profession early on because it exposed me to industires and entitites in retail, energy, defense, pharma etc etc.

I always knew i wanted to do something in the medical field but wasn't sure what! i think i was 11 when i was pretty sure about my future career choice, i know this may seem wierd as nobody can decide what they wanna do at the age of 11. But i made the decision of becoming a cancer researcher as my grandad had died of cancer and i was very close to him. At the moment i am in my second yr of uni doing Biomed, and am still hoping to pursue a career in cancer research for my grandad.......so yeah!

Your story is so similiar to my brother’s its not even funny…except for the airforce pilot thing…my Dad wanted him in Army..(he couldn’t clear the medical) ..he wanted to be a doctor…later Engineer to MIS..now he wants to be a VADEIRAH :phajja:…
