slavery.
blacks did all the 'donkey' work for the whites. they laid and built americas roots, from which the whites took full advantage of. using them to colonise farms/land and dig for natural resources etc.
without it, america would probably still be a lawless, 'cowboys and indians' type country,constantly at war with the mexicans. theyd be like a modern day Peru or Colombia.
