What language is this in and what does it mean.

Recently I heard a song from Shafqat’s new album (tabeer) called Kartar.

The language in it seemed familiar YET unintelligible to me. From the comments I gathered on youtube here are the lyrics:

and here is the song.

nice :music:

Re: What language is this in and what does it mean.

he belongs to Patiala gharana...n think they use to sing in nawab-shahi palaces...so they sing in this kinda language.

this song is a remix of some old thumri/or something

Re: What language is this in and what does it mean.

Thats either Braj or Awadhi, but most probably Braj Bhasa. thats the language used in thumris.
and ofcourse it will sound similar. it was one of the bases on which Khari Boli(modern Hindi) and Urdu were formed.

who ever wrote these lyrics needs some serious ear-cleaning…

here are the real lyrics as sung by shafQat

**kuch ajab khel kartar ke…
mor-e-saieen ghareeb banwaaj ke

aik ko deen-o-mulk tha janay…
aik bheekari hajaj ke

aik ko deen-o-hath mein Qasa…
aik pehnaway taaj re…**

[my understanding ofcourse] :cha:

most probably this talks about a king and a beggar [saieen] and how one was famous all over the country and other was a nameless beggar from hajaj.

Thanks saieen sahab. Greatly appreciated it. I was able to do more research with the input you provided.
