Never ever put any thought into buying a girl gift. They need flowers no matter what.
U think all day long and get some thing interesting and what you get a long face.
So flowers or chocolate is the answer, my friend.
To all you kanjoos men out there.. flowers are pretty, chocolates might be yummy.. but it's diamonds we want!

I love chocolates too, but not for a nikkah present.
As far as flowers are concerned, in fact any gift given with flowers and an appropriately romantic gesture would work. And yes, the flowers in and of themselves while sweet need to be supplemented with another gift - though the gift need not be expensive, just thoughtful.
