Islam encourages reading , what kind of reading ? Just Quran and hadees or we have more choices ? Seeking any other kind of knowledge ,for example astronomy ,will be qualified as waste of time or gaining the knowledge for broadening ones vision ?

Astronomy should is not be considered waste of time, it is a science.
Dont you remember the Hadees that said if you have to go to China for attaining knowledge then do so. I dont think that there is so many restrictions according to Islamic Law.More like people trying to deduce it. I really like this Islamic Scholar Jeffrey Lang's words when he was saying that usually all you hear is No ,dont do this, dont do that when in essence Islamic Law if compliled all together is almost 3% of Quran while the remaining 97% is ways of life, suggestions.

Hmmmm...... astronomy is the science of stars and space and is (and was) used widely for navigation of sea vessels etc. What you probably meant to say is astrology, which is the science of predicting the future by way of stars etc, and is seriously a waste of time (in my personal opinion). I am sure there are a lot of people who have a lot of faith in it. I consider it superstition. From an Islamic stand point, only Allah knows the future, so anyone trying to predict it by using vodoo science is wasting everyone's time.

I know what I wanted to say , I know astrology is completely haram and out of question.
I am talking about astronomy . Science of discovering new planets, stars , galaxy , landing on moon , landing on mars etc , etc.

Huh? Whoever said astronomy is a disliked science in Islam? I didn't knew that. As far as I know, early Islamic scholars made great strides in understanding the science of astronomy.

I dont really get your question. As far as I know there isn't any restriction on the type of knowledge that you can get. And where fiction is concerned, what kind of fiction? Erotica? Not allowed.
