Depends on how much technical experience you have in the Engineering field ... you could always have your own business catering to specific clients in the engineering field of your choice ..
For example, I know someone who was a design engineer in the automotive industry .. recently after about 20 years of having worked with giants in the industry , he decided to open up his own consultancy catering to the medium sized businesses in the industry and he is doing really really well for himself .. alot of his clients utilize his services coz he understand the market really well and knows the nitty gritty required to run the project successfully.

hey. I work in the engineering industry. the both go hand in hand. like cb said you can go into consultancy, but in engineering you deal with a lot of clients and so its still very business related.

Every engineer can become more involved in the business side of things. That is what a manager does! Whether its pure management of people, project management or actual sales/business development, if you enjoy the challenges and have an open mind, you can absolutely do it.
