Re: what islam says about having pets???

i used to have hamsters and fishies :frowning: They all died though one of the fishes stayed alive Masha’Allah for six years. :teary1: i got him on my 16th birthday.

hm anyways sorry, indoor cats - no problem i think. Guard dogs are okay i think but i am not so certain if they are permitted inside the house. i might be wrong, so no one lambast me if i’m wrong :smack:

Kewl, cats no problem .. dogs for guardian as nadia said.. no problem but inside.. no good.... there was a big time debate on this issue in the light of sunnah.. dig it out.. its somewhere here..

just went through all the topic , willbe gettign a cat then :)

keep in mind the majority reports coming against dogs are from a gentleman more commonly known as 'Father of Cats'.. conflict of interest?.. I do think there is one.

'Father of Cats'..

And this name was very dear to 'that person' ( May Allah be pleased with him) as it was bestowed upon him by Prophet Muhammad (saw).

Why cats and not dogs?

Sorry i have never heard of this before. Forgive my ignorance; who was the "Father of Cats"?

Abu Hurairah RA :konfused:

^ Perfect, thank you.

i thought i had read many hadiths and stories of the Companions of Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) but i am obviously mistaken. :o

Thank you  :flower1:

I think as long as you don't eat em or beat em it's all good

when visiting someones house who keeps a dog indoors, 9 out of 10 times it smells and the sad thing is the owner is usually oblivious too it.
... makes me wonder why? keep a dog indoors.

our prophet (p.b.u.h.) was not keen on dogs, however was compassionate about animals, from the best of my knowledge when prophet muhammad (p.b.u.h) was on a journey and it was time for prayers, he would delay them until the animals (camels, horses etc) had the loads taken off there backs and watered.

I agree with the real AK47, if not properly taken care of, dogs can stink up a place, however, dogs are not prohibited in the home by the Quran.

[18:18] You would think that they were awake, when they were in fact asleep. We turned them to the right side and the left side, while their DOG stretched his arms in their midst. Had you looked at them, you would have fled from them, stricken with terror.

The above verse is about the three youths that went to seek refuge from their oppressors in the cave and they stayed within for hundreds of years, among them was their dog. The three youths were righteous youths and the fact that they had their dog where they slept was mentioned in the Quran shows that it is permissible to have your dog where you habitate.

Virtually all my friends have a dog (or more) and none of their houses smell of dog. I have been to people's homes that smell pretty rank due to cats with indoor litter boxes.

Could it be that the reason your prophet was not keen on dogs was more of a personal preference than being divinely inspired?

Yes indeed you are right they are allowed to keep in the boundry of house. Letting them in where you eat or sleep or sit is something that we are told to refrain ourselves in the light of Sunnat-e-Nabi :saw:.

SalmanNY, so if letting the dog go where you sleep is bad, how come 3 righteous youths slept along with their dog for hundreds of years?

Well ahamed, if i dont know the precise date of when that happened. But I can post you quite a few Hadiath about keeping dog inside your house. But the only probblem is i am not sure if you are too fond of hadiath as from previous posts i dont take hadith into much consideration. For you if it is not mention in Quran then its allowed. Aint I rite eh ?

^^ by that token if it's clearly mentioned in Qur'an that you can.. you still feel the need to ignore it.. pasand apnee apnee.. aahmed choses the Qura'n... i have a feeling he's with the right document.

Bilkul Pasand apni apni jaga. Some people Chose only quran and forget about prophet Mohamamd :saw: and some people keep both in mind as we are told by Allah s.w.t in Quran. Definatley Allah :swt: has told us to follow the teachings of Mohammad :saw: .. didnt He ? But yea that doesnt apply to you as you dont consider any hadiath or any of the teachings of Prophet Mohammad :saw: to begin with. So, its useless to argue with you buddy…
