Re: What is “Zihar”?
Walaikumussalam according to my knowledge if huband calls her wife 'mother’in a sense he calls his own mother so as a punishment he must fast 60 consecutive days, at the begining if husband called his wife ‘mother’(due to her old age ), it was considered as talaq. the story of khuwalah is mentioned in tafaseer, a complaining woman who complains Allah for this act of his husband. I love her style of complaining. Allah named the surah on her action ‘mujadalah meaning complaining woman’. Rest its obviously in favour of women, i have never seen any favour in this world than islam has favoured us beautifully Alhamdulilah being a muslimah!!
May Allah forgive me if i have written anything wrong Ameen
Here are the starting verses where zihar is mentioned
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Certainly has Allah heard the speech of the one who argues with you, [O Muhammad], concerning her husband and directs her complaint to Allah. And Allah hears your dialogue; indeed, Allah is Hearing and Seeing. (1) **Those who pronounce thihar among you [to separate] from their wives - they are not [consequently] their mothers. Their mothers are none but those who gave birth to them. And indeed, they are saying an objectionable statement and a falsehood. But indeed, Allah is Pardoning and Forgiving. **(2) And those who pronounce thihar from their wives and then [wish to] go back on what they said - then [there must be] the freeing of a slave before they touch one another. That is what you are admonished thereby; and Allah is Acquainted with what you do. (3) And he who does not find [a slave] - then a fast for two months consecutively before they touch one another; and he who is unable - then the feeding of sixty poor persons. That is for you to believe [completely] in Allah and His Messenger; and those are the limits [set by] Allah. And for the disbelievers is a painful punishment. (4)

Re: What is “Zihar”?
It was something about how once a husband got sick of his wife and the love between them had decreased, ancient Arabs would call their wife “mother” and it was an insult - as in “you’re an old lady now, no longer sexy to me”.
So Allah scolds the man for mistreating his wife and the lesson is you need to keep the love Sparks going in your marriage even as you age.
