What is your zaat ?

Re: What is your zaat ?

We're Pathans from Mahmud Ghazni's lineage, and settled in India during the Mughal regime but we've tried keeping the Pashtoon culture intact as much as possible!

I have deep love for my ancestral land Afghanistan and consider fellow Pashtoons from the other side of the border with great reverence..

:k:

My ethnic identity is Pushtoon , I am Athmanzai , Trible

Well, Zaats are not that important, all i think is that as long as the person is a muslim its all good. My family is known as the 'Malik' zaat.

Re: What is your zaat ?

im pathan..but dont knw kaunsa vala pathan :(

Re: What is your zaat ?

Hehe..Sameeee here!

Pathan or pashtun?

Re: What is your zaat ?

Any major difference there? Pardon my ignorance but I thought they both are synonymous terms..

Re: What is your zaat ?

Pakhtun - Mohmand.

Pathan is a derrogatory term meaning robber, child-kidnaper. Pashto speaking pashtuns call themeselves pashtuns and usually do not use term pathan for themselves. Those who have forgetten their pashto always call themselves pathans.

Re: What is your zaat ?

^..ehhhhhh :S

Re: What is your zaat ?

Thats a strange unheard of description and sorry, I do not believe this! I mean, as far as pashtoons being pashto speaking people goes, it's acceptable but I don't believe the kidnapper n blah blah part!

Re: What is your zaat ?

ive always wondered about this but nobody ever gives me a clear cut answer...my moms siddiqui and my dads last name is rehman....what does that make me?

thats a good news!

Re: What is your zaat ?

Syed sunni :)

Re: What is your zaat ?

^me too:)

Pathan is simply the Urdu (and related languages) word for Pashtun just as German is the English word for Deutsch.

Why do our people like to propogate basless theories, fables and lies?

Pathan is also a Zaat (caste/tribe) label for Urdudans and Punjabis of Pashtun origin, but these people have no desire to be associated with the Pashtun ethnicity anymore, when they describe themselves as Pathan they mean it as a group within Punjabis or Urdudans rather than ethnic Pashtuns.

Re: What is your zaat ?

I have NO idea

Paternal family claims to be Naqvi.

Those who claim Middle Eastern paternal origins may want to consider DNA testing to find out their origins. National Geographic has been collecting/ recording this information on human populations because with so much mobility and mixing in the modern world, we may not be able to tell where we came from in a few generations.

In patrilineal societies, like ours in Pakistan you would identify with your father’s zaat, which would be Shaikh. I am not sure but I think Shaikh are Rajputs.
