Re: What is your zaat ?

ALL ZAAT PEOPLE ARE KAMZAAT, BADZAAT

Re: What is your zaat ?

Ok, so I understand the tribal system, But can some one tell me why and how the names related to geographical areas are used as cast? Qurashi, Gurdaspuri, Kashmiri, and on the other hand in Pakistan, why certian casts are known from their profession, e.g., Nai, Jolaey, Lohar and many other. Now another question is can a Rajpoot be a Nai as well, or Bahtti be a lohar? or is it like you can pick and chose as you go along, is there any system?

Re: What is your zaat ?

Zaat would mean caste which is a Hindu/Indian thing, we have tribes instead and I'm Durrani (a Pashtun tribe).

Re: What is your zaat ?

well im Mohmand..and my mothers tribe is considered apart of the durrani tribes...senga yeh zama wrora?

Re: What is your zaat ?

Yes. Rajpoots can be naiee as well. I don't know how to answer this question, properly. From what I know, after the fall of the Mughal Empire, people from different castes started professions which were similar or the same as another person(s) from within their caste (i.e: most tarkhans became lohars or blacksmiths, but not all; most gujjars became milkmen, but not all; etc etc), and so people started to say such things. I don't think their professions had anything to do with their ancestoral roots.

I might be wrong.

Re: What is your zaat ?

alizai from hazara

you have the best ancestry any body can get , you are the lucky one from both sides you should prove it , rajputs are known for giving their head for any noble cause , you should be proud of it but in a decent way.

iqbal descended from kashmiri brahmins , dar, kaul or butt ,supporter of two nation theory, why he believed " sare jahan se achha hinustan hamara" ,this is sung at every school of india.

Re: What is your zaat ?

zaat na puuche... paat na puuche... na puuche ga tera dharma -
rabb tera puuche gaa ow bandey... kya thaa tera karma.

The first time I was asked the question about my zaat was when I visited Pakistan when I was 16 or so... and until then, I really had no concept of zaat. Needless to say that I was made fun of cuz I didn't know what zaat I was. I went home to ask my parents and they said it isn't important, and I still remember my dad's words to me at the time when he said:
*
yehaaN parr log zaat paat ke chakaroN mey par kar bartari aur foqiyat ki baateyN karte heiN... aap ko iss sey koi gharz nahi rakhni chaahiye - buss khyaal rakhna key aap ka imaan aur amal durust ho. Allah ke nazdeek wohi afzal hai!*

Later on during a conversation with the extended family, I found out about the origin of our family name etc. and how it's linked to the whole zaat concept and where our ancestors were from and where they spread out to... but yes... it's surprising how prevalent the zaat based social system still is in Pakistan.
