What is your understanding....?

of a modest dressing. Do you feel that your own daily life dressing perfectly coincides with your personal belief system or you think you need to convince / motivate yourself to make improvements in certain areas ?

Do you sometimes feel yourself in a situation when few latest fashion designs tempts you to adopt them, but at the same time also make you feel uncomfortable when you think it might be crossing the limits of your belief system. How do you deal with such a situation ? Do you find a way that satisfies both, your desire and your faith ?

Re: What is your understanding....?

no..i dont feel compelled to follow any such fashion trends that do not go well with my belief......but that doesnt mean i should look like a slob...if it is appropriate...and looks good...i d wear it!!

Re: What is your understanding....?

I don't like to be hypocritical and say that I follow Islam when I don't....for example, if i am wearing an oversize tshirt and jeans it is still haram because my arms are exposed. one could say i should cover my arms, but i think they are benign...is this Islamic? No..not at all. Maybe you find me a sad and misguided case but my personal belief is that my scrawny arms will probably not arouse any interest in anyone. Whether God agrees is another case that can be argued and argued, but I feel like he is a merciful God and sees my good spirit.

Well I personally feel that being a muslim if I deviate from the ways of the Prophet (saw) intentionally and continue to do so without repentance, I shouldn't be very hopeful for my escape from punishment, because God / Allah loves the Prophet (saw) sunnah and teachings more than anything else. .

How should one judge a dress to be appropriate ? I mean what should be the criteria / standard ?

Re: What is your understanding....?

well lets see.....skin-tight,see through,sleeves too short,revealing neckline,short kameezes..with slits too high, thin white shalwars...all a big no-no......

Re: What is your understanding....?

i feel pretty guilty about my dressing. my Pakistani outfits are really tight. my jeans are tight, my shirts should be longer. im working on it, hope to improve soon.

Even though if presently we might not be able to completely follow the dress code of our belief system, the urge to follow the sunnah of the Prophet (s.a.w) and correct oneself is an indication of “Imaan” in the heart of a Muslim. The dangerous time for a Muslim is when he becomes satisfied with disobeying the orders of his beliefs “consistently” and openly, as that is the time when nature tries to bring us back to track through troubles in daily life.

One thing I have noticed is that for Muslims there are certain strict orders for men and women in terms of maintaining one’s dressing within certain limits but unfortunately in present age we might be doing totally opposite to what is ordered to us.

It is very clear from hadiths that men should keep their clothes above ankles (http://www.paklinks.com/gs/religion-scripture/292414-izar.html) while women should cover their ankles in their dressing. Yet we find most Muslim men and women doing the opposite.

May Allah (s.w.t) guide us all towards the right path and bless us with strength and determination in “happily” following the sunnah of the Prophet (s.a.w)

Re: What is your understanding....?

I'm satisfied with what I wear.

Re: What is your understanding....?

well my dresses r always within the limits..... coz my husband, alhamdullilah never ever let me go far from Islam....

now a days in pakistan its a fashion of very thin dupatta and this see through dupatta i snot enough to cover head n hair(satar).

one day at my home function i had to wear the dress with this type of see through dupatta, but he didnt let me wear that, i askd the reason, though my all body was properly covered.....

he gave me the reason n said , if u make a dress of this dupatta only, will u wear it?
i said no coz its see through.

then he said this is also with ou head ( head n hair) also included *SATAR *if u cant wear it on ur other body so its not proper for ur hair to cover them up.

now when ever i buy a dress first i see the dupatta, if dupatta is thin i order a special scarf for that dress.

Re: What is your understanding....?

i wear a cardi on top or a full sleeve top under a sleevless dress......works perfectly for me.
