The Goverment of Yemen are Trangressors.
The people n Yemen, well you get some good and bad every place.
I wouldn't mind going to Yemen to Study the Deen and 'Arabic. There are some really good places in Yemen to live. And there are some very good Muslimeen living there upon the Sunnah. Mashaa-Allaah.
But, obviously, you get deviated Muslims also, just like in Pakistan,
"Saudia", and other places etc.
There are good and bad people everywhere and no generalizations can be made. However, I have found the Yemenis to be the best people in Muslim Arabs. They are really down to earth and you would see a real difference in them compared to other Arabs.
Yemen was divided into two parts (North and South), the South being communists. However, a war was fought that eventually resulted in the reunification of Yemen into one country.
The Prophet :saw: had sent a famous sahabi Muaaz bin Jabbal 
to Yemen also.
The favorite pass time of Yemenis is chewing “Qaat”. Its a kind of leaf, like we chew paan. However, in every meeting, gathering it is a custom for them to chew qaat.
Yemeni food is also a bit similar to ours. They use spices like we do. Mnay of the things got introduced into Yemen from trade with India in old days.
In Yemen, you would observe their women to be extremely observant of Parda.
Yemenis prove to be really good friends, and this closeness ofcourse is based on faith.
