this may seem like a silly question. but its a seriuous and genuine question which i was curious about, those who are married probably know the answer.....can one be prescribed the contraceptive pill in pakistan when needed easily?
Yeah condoms are easily available from a high end drug store or pharmacy and the pill, I guess you can get a perscription from a gynaecologist without any problems..
I think condoms are available everywhere in Pakistan. The corner drugstore int he pind where I stay has em. How do I know? Coz I nearly slipped on one and fell in teh gully
Devoted2Allah... Good question. Yes, in Pakistan the name of the most used/Prescribed contraceptive is Familia. Its available off the counter very easily in most of the drugstores (even in pinds I guess).
Anyway if u feel too lost, just tune into t.v. They've got like a gazillion adds running every 5 seconds on "chabi" lol God knows what that means, but u can ask the dude at the drugmart to give u a handful of it ;-)
Don't use over the counter birth control pills. Some shouldn't be taken if you have heart problems in your family and stuff like that so a doctor needs to assess your risk and the one time I went to get one, they said I should come back in some time to see how it was working, whether there were any side effects for me. Get a perscription for well known ones like Alesse. I'm sure they must have that in Pakistan.
u see im in a dilemma, im in the uk at the mo, and goin pak for my rikhsati this summer inshAllah, gonna stay there for a few months,
ive not started to take the pill, still thinkin about it, but i thought i should take like a supply with me incase i do decide to use it. but then i thought whatever happens i can get sum from there from the family doctor or there should be other forms of contraceptives easily available in pak?
also after reading earlier replies in this thread it seems that i should start using th pill a good few months ahead of time because i need to see which suits me??? now i dont want to do that id rather just start taking it when i need to…im in such a dilemma, sorry for waffling but i just need some advice
Devoted, I think you just need to start taking the pill at least one or two months beforehand. If you have some medical problems in your family, your doctor might advise you against taking the pill, in which case you would have to look toward some other form of birth control. It also depends on your personal preferences, some people prefer not to use condoms so you should talk to your husband as well to see what you guys should do, it should be a decision that you reach together. And the pill also requires that you take it at the exact same time everyday (a pain in the neck) and then you skip exactly seven days in which you don’t take the pill. Initially your period won’t fall into those days but I think after some time it will, so it regulates your period as well, which is perfect if you have problems in that area.
Talk to your doctor, tell her when you are getting your rukhsati and she can tell you when to start taking the pill. Take Alesse if you can because I think Alesse has the lowest dose of “something” in there (forgot what, exactly). Stay away from patches (an example being Evra, I think) because I have heard horror stories about them. Other contraceptives are spermicide and diaghpragms (sp) but they are not as effective as the pill or the condom. If you really don’t want pregnancy at the moment, then you should really use two forms of contraceptive.
Devoted: Its a good idea if u get a go on it now. Don't leave things so important off to last moments. You never know what kind of situation you will be in Pak. Sometimes things may not fall into place as planned..so its best to be prepared forehand (err don't mind me rambling, I've fallen into a bad ditch regarding it so don't want to see someone else like that) It'll be better to just get the prescription from UK while you still can.
In Paks docs usually don't take the pains of seeing what medication suits ur type or what not. They just recommend and expect it to work. And in most cases it does. Btw...don't be scared of the details sarah has put up :-) Its not as hard of a ritual to get used to once u're on it. The pill form of contraceptive is more reliable accurate and most effective.
Anyways good luck :)
Sarah...err...the reason I asked is because I've lived there (a real bummer experience) a few yrs back...and din't come across any. Ohwell :-)
