What is your favorite book? and why?

Mine is Sweetness in the belly by Camilla Gibb. The story just touched my heart! It was the first time I was reading something so amazingly uplifting and beautiful.

Re: What is your favorite book? and why?

Gravity's Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon. Why? Because it felt like Pynchon had reached into my brain and given it a good hard shake.

Playboy.

Re: What is your favorite book? and why?

Mysti asked for a book, not series. Unless you have a particular edition in mind, your answer is void.

Re: What is your favorite book? and why?

The one with Marilyn Monroe on the cover.

Re: What is your favorite book? and why?

I have a few but classics wise it's The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck. The struggles this poor chinese family goes through reminds me of the struggles many desis have dealt with back home and when moving abroad. Think about the movie Mother India but a chinese book version and that's what you will have. Stories of triumphs and tragedies, of hard working and family traditions that limit desires or roles one can play.

Others I highly recommend is The Hundred Secret Senses from Amy Tan, Pride & Prejudice - Jane Austen, A thousand Splendid Suns - Khaled Hosseni, The Wentieth Wife by Indu Sundaresan (loved the 3 part series and finished the last book while i was visiting pakistan for the first time so it was amazing to read about mughal love being found at shalimar gardens and then actually walk through there and the big forts and such). Memoirs of a Geisha will always be a favorite because I love it when the underdog triumphs. The Alchemist - Paulo Coelho will inspire you to concur the world, yet I haven't done that so hmm maybe it just gives us more liberty to dream something we loose as we get older.

Re: What is your favorite book? and why?

Sweet_LiL_Hunnie, I really liked The Good Earth. Did you read the sequels? I didn't, because after the fate of the poor first wife, O-Lan, I couldn't bring myself to care for any of the other characters.

Re: What is your favorite book? and why?

Only if you bought the book from a fish market. :)

Re: What is your favorite book? and why?

Ha! It is perfectly possible to be able to smell a book. Provided the writer is evocative enough, and you let the book deep enough into your imagination. :P
