What is what?

Cetirizine (Zyrtec): Antihistamine, treats fever and allergy
Loratadine (Claritin): Antihistamine, treats allergy
Diphenhydramine (Benadryl): Antihistamine, treats severe allergic reactions
Naproxen (Aleve): Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory, treats fever and pain
Ibuprofen (Advil): Treats pain and fever. This medicine is an NSAID.

First three are allergy medicine and rest are for fever and pain.

How do you select right medicine?

Re: What is what?

What is Histamine, Antihistamine, anti-inflamatory?

Re: What is what?

These are all just over the counter.

Antihistamines are for allergies. 1st Gen. (dimen, diphen, chlorphen) has a sedative affect and 2nd gen (loratadine, cetrizine etc.) they are non-sedating because i think they don't cross BBB

In NSAIDs, they pretty much work the same. Naproxen you take for chronic illness, Ibuprofen you just pop in for a headache and stuff.

Re: What is what?

Hi Pisiform I read on the net that Ibuprofen can clear small arteries of the brain and can prevent Alzhiemers also it helps after a stroke is this true?

**Post-stroke inflammation slows down recovery and impairs brain plasticity, reveal new results. The popular anti-inflammatory drug ibuprofen restores the ability of brain cortex to reorganize – a process necessary for recovery of stroke-damaged functions. **
