^ where doesnt that happen? Ive known people who were living in US for 6-7 years.. who moved back to OZ cus they find it to be a bit more accepting of minorities and multi-culturalism.. the amount of events we have in a year to celebrate the diversity of this country is amazing..
just cus some people tell u how they got treated, does not make the entire nation racist..

I don't know....a major political party that seems to be against any kind of foreign immigration sounds pretty racist to me :)...but then again, i don't know much about australia anyways so i'm not going to argue with someone who actually lives there.

i dont know why... but i keep the political parties separate from the common man and his/her views..
i dont spend my daily life interacting with political officials.. in my 19 years here, ive encountered several desi racists rather than the "common aussie" (whatever that means)

Australia is a democratic country as i understand. Someone has to vote in order for them to survive. It might be that their racism (or whatever the word is that i am looking for here) only applies towards other nations and not towards races or cultures themselves.

^ maybe.. i dont know. Im really blonde with this political stuff so im not even gonna start. All i know is that people i interact with (non-desis) hardly ever agree with the stance these political parties take. Sure we vote for them.. but theres a lot of other things we look into before doing so (ie health covers, interest rates.. etc)
im sure u'll agree that majority of americans were against the idea of war... but still it happened. We aint gonna point the finger at every american and call them a racist.. are we now?

I went on a business trip in early 2003 to my company HQ in the USA with an passionately anti-war english girl.
We were shocked there at how many of the company's managers (these are smart people, from some of the best business schools and universities in the USA) were totally convinced that Iraq posed a very real danger to themselves and had to be attacked to ensure their own safety!!!!
If many of a nation's brightest could be duped by media with an agenda, imagine what the regular plebians would be thinking....

Ofcourse, the majority is against it NOW, but they were supporting it even after it started. According to a recent survey, close to majority still support it.

how does being a business official make u intelligent? there are very dumb people out there in high ranks (ie Bush, Howard and the like)
dont mistake a common mans intelligence or views.. just cus their voice aint being heard, doesnt make it any less valuable.
business officials and people in other high places think of different things before making a decision... a common man doesnt really have much to lose, except for dignity and morals

I don't know about a common man either. I think the point he was trying to make is that if the people up high are so ignorant, the people who hold the power, than just imagine how ignorant a common man must be. Just imagine, someone who has had way more education than an average person, you would think that he would know better. But apperently not.
And the thing that never seizes to amaze me is the fact that such yahoos constantly keep on getting elected to the office. If they have made a mistake once, don't give them the chance to outdo their previous mistakes.

majority of the aussies are blonds either way so no wonder they show their intelligence every now and then. and abt racism, yes aussies are rite at the top when it comes to such… 
sadzzz u may not have experienced racism all your life but then you are not representing every foreigner in that country now are you? you can not use yourself to represent the lot. every person has a different story to tell. do some research and see where aussies stand when it come to prejudice and racism.

i repeat this thread aint about aussies being racist. And no, not every aussie is blonde and blue eyed.. majority of them happen to be brunettes.. and the ones u may be talking about are the people who live in the outbacks.. who dont have any interaction with multiculturalism.. if views of those people u call racist.. then so be it, but an average joe living in the suburbs thinks otherwise..
