What is the typical salary for engineers working in Alberta, Canada?

I have just over four years of work experience under my belt (including co-op terms during school). It’s all been in the Oil and Gas industry. Although I’m doing really well at work (increasing responsibilities and even direct reports), I feel like my salary isn’t increasing as much as I’d expected it to. So my question is what is the salary I should be expecting at this stage in my career?

How many years of full time experience do you really have? Coop is great but it is going to have little or no bearing on your salary. It will simply help you secure a potentially high paying initial job out of university.

Are you an undergrad or Masters ? my friends who did their masters got their first job (no canadian experience but had experience in pakistan) starting from 65K. Few of them moved to fort mcmurray and being paid in 6 figures. not to mentioned they got signing bonus and 20-30K bonus every 3rd year.

Re: What is the typical salary for engineers working in Alberta, Canada?

My education is from Canada, but I've only got an undergrad. My starting salary was $73k, but in the last three years it's only increased by about $13k. I got almost $20k as a bonus last year (before taxes).
Is this a normal rate of increase in salary? I was expecting 6 figures by this point in my career. Is that an unreasonable expectation?

Re: What is the typical salary for engineers working in Alberta, Canada?

what city are you working in right now ? unless its a remote area (fort mc or so) you are on the right track. 13K in 3 years is pretty good, i would sya.

I'm in Calgary, but it seems like a lot of my friends are making more than I am.

Any salary is good at the moment in oil and gas. Lots of people are losing their jobs. The money will come with time so don't worry too much yet. You are still young and getting the right experience should be the focus.. I'm in oil and gas in the UK and I know people that were making $400,000 + (converted from pounds to Canadian dollars)

With crude down to 40 from 140 people are doing well to have a job. Canadian oil sand are I think 24 per barrel. So that haters the Suncor (?) Et al.

5.5 pct annual increase in salary is great. Abt 13 pct if u count bonus. Congratulations for doing well.
