Re: What is the shape of your Paratha?
Usually square, as I find that to be the quickest. But sometimes round, where you roll it into a rope, coil it and then flatten it, or round were you add a slit half way through to the middle, and role around the slit into a cone and then flatten it .

Roll a round one, fold in half to make a semi-circle, then fold the ends in from the centre point to create a triangle.
That's how I do it anyway.
Re: What is the shape of your Paratha?
this is so interesting, lol never heard of triangle ones! mom usually makes round parathas, as tigerly mentioned. she made square ones too but i think round are easier to make. Whenever i try,, it always comes out too thick and not crispy at all :(
Re: What is the shape of your Paratha?
^ there is a brand called Deep that is available in our stores in USA (I am sure its available elsewhere too). Those are triangular. Here is the picture.
Re: What is the shape of your Paratha?
wow.....so many varieties.....
khala used to make meethi roti -- I think it had layers
ammi never made stuffed paratha for me....I was a fussy eater so likely I wouldn't eat 'em.....I'm sure the older brothers had them though.
Re: What is the shape of your Paratha?
kind of Sara....but I don't quite understand what's going on in pics 3, 4 and 6.....and my coiled peRa has much more defined coils.
Re: What is the shape of your Paratha?
there is no such thing as a round paratha unless you are making it out of maida and deep frying it to eat with seekh kababs.
the shallow fried ones we make at home are always square........initially rolled round, ghee applied, folded square and then rolled out again for cooking......keep in mind that these are slightly fried on the tawa.
the "layered" ones that everyone is referring to are called "parath-daar roti".......initially rolled round, ghee applied, folded and rolled to a rope and then coiled onto itself in a circle, rolled again and then cooked.........after cooking the roti is then "crumpled" slightly and another layer of ghee applied just before it is served....
man......we're having parathay tonight.
Hain?? It would be poori if you deep fry it. In Punjab Parahtay/roti/poori/naan are always round. In karachi I have seen triangular parahtay but even there resturant and such serve round parahtay.

Re: What is the shape of your Paratha?
Ok wow.. I never knew parathas were made in any other shape! That is so cool. I am totally asking for a square paratha at sehri time. Can’t believe I have been deprived of them ![]()
Re: What is the shape of your Paratha?
I use strong white Canadian flour for making parathas. They turn out as Quetta Wala hotel in Karachis' paratha and I make them round.
Re: What is the shape of your Paratha?
gol and large with layers.
Re: What is the shape of your Paratha?
Question for you guys, does the shape really change the taste of the paratha????

I think that its not the shape, but what you do to get to that shape, changes the texture and hence the taste a little. Dough of square paratha needs to be folded few times, that brings crunchiness to the finish product. In contrast, regular round paratha is rolled out of a ball and is softer than a typical square paratha.
Re: What is the shape of your Paratha?
oh my I have never heard of square or triangular parathas (even the triangular Deep naans look weird to me)..............ours are circular in shape
