Re: What is the shape of your Paratha?

your thread is making me crave for my Ammi's layered parathe so badly :(

and i make square ones too! (rarely i may add :p)

Re: What is the shape of your Paratha?

Sara. you never heard of Square parathay? really :hmmm:

Hareem, spherical parathay are called pakoray.

Re: What is the shape of your Paratha?

Ammi makes - Square
Begum makes - Round
Sasu Maa makes - Round

Phuppi (who is no more :( ) - used to make custom paratha when I was kid. I had her make star shape, tree shape, boat shape and what not. I still remember, she used to cut the shapes and make parathas for me.

I also make paratha that sometimes resembles pre-partitioned sub continent and sometimes after partitioned. But it tastes yummy. Layers and layers...

Re: What is the shape of your Paratha?

I make square ones if I have time, otherwise round ones...

My mami makes seven layered ones...

Re: What is the shape of your Paratha?

my mom used to make square paratha, but when we went to isloo and saw first time round pratha i demanded to make round one and since then mom making round pratha.

Re: What is the shape of your Paratha?

Really. this is the first time I am hearing about parathay shaped any other way.

Then again my mother also used to dip pakoriyan in yogurt, with chickpeas and onions and tomatoes…and would call it “raita”…I only learned the real meaning of paratha when I went to college.

(is it any wonder i was so confused :hehe: )

oh man…that is so sweet. I should learn it…just to make for my nephews :hmmm: my mom (when she was here) would make it for them and they called it butter roti.

haye this thread is making me miss my mommy :frowning:

Re: What is the shape of your Paratha?

Square is my shape ... I feel round paratha is just not for me ...

Re: What is the shape of your Paratha?

I dont know how to make paratha cause I cannt roll a proper shape even to save my life. I also noticed that you cannot cut a round shape out of your irregularly rolled dough (using a dinner plate as a template). Cutting gives you very sharp and thin edges, while rolling gives you thicker and somewhat enclosed edges. Thin/sharp edge cannot trap the heat inside paratha as well so you come up with mis-cooked paratha.

Re: What is the shape of your Paratha?

best parathay is the one that my phoopoos make - sqaure warki with extra ghee inside. (yumm)

Re: What is the shape of your Paratha?

warki? is that another name for layered (parat walay) parathay?

Re: What is the shape of your Paratha?

square, triangle, round...with lots of layers...

Re: What is the shape of your Paratha?

my saas makes the best purathas ever...i love having the crispy layers wala she makes with nice shorba yummmm

Re: What is the shape of your Paratha?

wow, a miracle in ramadhan .. someone is praising her saas ..
Joking joking :D

Re: What is the shape of your Paratha?

Round.....my mom makes square ones sometimes......but nothing beats the good old round paratha..

I honestly think...that shape doesn't matter.....its the thickness/layers/cooking part that differentiates...
