According to my understanding, the purpose of this life is to worship Allah (SWT) Alone.
"And I (Allâh) created not the jinn and mankind except that they should worship Me (Alone)." [51:56]

The purpose of life is to appreciate ALLAH"s creation. to LOVE Him, to cheerish life and his infinite blessings, to search him within Humanity and His creation. BUT how can we do that if we dont love Human beings no matter from what religion, race, culture they come from. Life is to serve Humanity...
“O humankind We [God] have created you male and female, and made you into communities and tribes, so that you may know one another. Surely the noblest amongst you in the sight of God is the most godfearing of you. God is All-knowing and All-Aware” (Quran 49:13).

Sadiyah, can someone take the verse you quoted and start praying to Allah day and night? Living his life in absolute wilderness, away from everyone and everything in the worship of Allah? Or is there more to the verse & purpose of life?

ahmadjee, I posted the verse because that is the first verse that comes to mind everytime I think about the purpose of life. Worshiping, I believe has many forms to it and salah happens to be one of them. In essence, abiding by the Shariah is worshiping Allah (SWT) and we are all aware that Islam is a complete way of life.

Ahmadjee we can worship Allah day nite, we shud worship Allah day and night but as we know the Best of creations is The Prophet(saw). we look at his life and see how he worshipped Allah. by locking yrslf away for evry1 isnt good bcos we hav to get married, have kids, giv dawah, do jihaad for the sake of Allah these are forms of worship which you dnt hav to lock yrslf away for.
now many muslims hav locked themselves away sincerly for the worship of Allah but as we know this is goin into extremes bcos The prophet(saw) neva did this then why shud we?
Sister sadiyah is rite abt the verse she quoted but only a fool will take that specfic verse and live his life by it. Islam is not based on 1 verse but the whole qur'an.
Allah said in the Qur'an why he created us but we also hav a purpose, and what is that purpose?
to enjoin good and forbid evil, to giv dawah, to be tested, to do jihaad, there are many other purposes. obviously the main is reach the highest point in heaven.

It really astounds me when I hear people say, "You only live once so I wanna make the most of it." I totally agree that we must strive to be our best and achieve as much as we can, for the benefit of ourselves, our families and others in society too. But the phrase can also hint at the belief that there is no Hereafter and that this life is all we have.
I believe that we are here to worship Allah as He has commanded and taught us according to the Qur'an. Life is a test and it is transient. We can't get attached to the material things of the world. But we should look to others who are suffering and try to help them.
