I was reading Iqbal’s nazam and I didn’t know what kind of word “kargis” His ashar were like that
Parvaaz hai dono ki si ik faza mein
Kargis ka ajahaan aur hai shaheen kaa jahaan aur

YES...the word is pronounced as **KARGAS**** and NOT kargis...and in Urdu, it's called *GID* [no H at the end...daal ke ba'd do chashmi HE nahiiN hai (Hindi kaa DHA]**

I remember in Bano Qudsia's famous novel 'Raja Gidh' she used this term Kargas jaati at many places.
