What is the difference ....

Between threading, waxing and tweezing? How is each one better/worse for your skin?

Waxing - pulls of lots of hairs at one time hence more painful but better for larger surface areas ie legs. Can be used on your face but generally not for long term use as it can make skin stretch. (also similar to sugaring)

Tweezing - more for removing the odd stray hair , for example between eyebrow appointments - unless you have a lot of time and patience. Not really damaging to teh skin but you can get infected pores if you use sharp pointed tweezers that aren't squeaky clean.

Threading - probably the kindest method of hair removal as the thread doesn't pull on your skin. Plus it's cheap and fast, you can remove more hairs than you would by tweezing.

That's a general rough guide, hope it helps.

shahreen, y do u say that threading doesn't pull on ur skin?

Erm, because it doesn't? I mean, the thread wraps around the hair and pulls it out (as opposed to something like wax or hair removing cream which is in contact with the skin too) so doesn't stretch on the skin as there's little contact.

Or maybe that's just my theory........

^^

its ur theory :p coz after all the hair IS attached to the skin so when the thread pulls the hair the skin getz pulled 2...but then again, maybe thats just my theory :D

True BUT its yanked out so quickly that it's hardly stretching it at all. Whereas with waxing larger surface areas of skin is pulled and thats wha causes thesagging over time.

Or we could be wrong...........

so shahreen is the sagging over time a myth or really true? :konfused:

Shahreen not always though. actually it doesn't really take out piece of skin like waxing would. but the skin does get pulled at times.

i had a friend who got her eyebrows waxed and i dono how the hell the lady did it, but she had a chunk of skin taken off from the top of her eyebrow

n then a couple of times when i went for threading, i guess the lady did it too fast that my skin wuz pulled from the side of my lip n yes it does hurt, but it's not as bad as waxing n kinda looks like a pimple not really though

so i mean not always but there are few exceptions with each method i guess

Chorni, the skin probably came off your friend's eyebrows with the waxing cause the wax may have been too hot.

^^could have been that too :bummer:

When i got waxing done for the first time (professionally!!), the lady was steaming my face for a facial and decided to do waxing and took the skin off my cheek!!! I mean my skin was sensitive as it was becuz of some medication i was taking. And then she decided to steam it and then wax it!
But the next time, I did it at home and Alhamdulillah it went fine. Havent tried threading on my whole face yet, basically first becuz i am scared and second no one does it in this area
so, I would say try watever you feel comfortable with and then go from there. Good lucks !

i would say never use twezer on ur face.. my friend did that in past and now her hair growth actually increase.. if she doesnt do 1 week, black spot(tiny miny hairs) will start to about and u wont be able to take those out unless u use threadin method..

it was my friend's experiance.. i never tried it..

ive been waxing my face since i was 18 so thats ummm 6 years now, and ive found my skin hasnt sagged at all... i mean maybe it may when i get older.. but my mums been doing it for years as well, and her skin is still pretty tight Alhamdulillah

i did get threading done once on my face, but i dont think its as effective, but its excellent on the eyebrows

Did it come back any thicker with wax? My friends thread their faces and it came back significantly thicker to a point where I think they do it everyday!

na with the wax it takes about 2-4 weeks.. depends on the individual.. when i went to pak for 4 weeks, i didnt touch my face at all..

if u wax "properly", like pull in the right direction without breaking the hair, it wont come back thick.. it'll be softer and a lot thinner

i have to say this an interesting topic..esp for girls...i think if somone has less hair coming out after they wax or thread ..and someone has more ..it also depends a lot on their genes and hair growth..so u cannot guarntee the same result for every individual..what about epilators ?? does anyone here use that ???

An eplitaor on your face? Ouch!

I'm going to send that suggestion to the producers at Fear Factor.

na not on the face ...in general...!!! lol FEAR FACTOR ...NICE SHOW !!

Is it just me, or do any of you guys think that threading is a LOT more painful than waxing? I know I'll look like a 90 year old when I'm 40, but i prefer waxing (and I'm sure they'll have discovered a decent anti wrinkle cream by then).

yeap me too sadi sobi... im terrified of threading...
