It was briefly discussed in another thread in General, but I didn’t want to divert that thread from its topic, so here it is.
What do you understand from the term “hijaab”?
Is it just taking a scarf over your head and covering all your hair, or is it more than that?
Is it part of the bigger issue that you should not make yourself attractive towards the opposite sex or is it ok to wear a scarf or “hijaab” on your head and then wear beautiful fancy clothes which will make you attractive towards opposite sex, and then justify that you are wearing nice pretty clothes for yourself and not for those who look at you?
I guess, the first question is the most important.

I will appreciate if you keep cut-pastes (especially lengthy ones) from other websites to an absolute minimum. If you wish, please only post the very relevant portions here and give a link to the full thing for those who want to read it.
Faisal i'm sure we all agree that hijaab is more than just a piece of cloth over your head, the main purpose of which is to prevent lewdness is the society which will undoubtedly appear if hijab were avoided...., as attraction between the opposite sexes is only normal.
hijab...well,when i started wearing hijab,it was like a really big thing for me,sacrificing my nafs...i loved my long jet black hair,n was all the time complimented for it,and some of my friends even think it made me look beautiful.hijab tells the person you are speaking to,that he is speaking to a muslim and then they know what they can say and what they cant, and hijab makes a girl(even if shes only wearing it for the sake of plasing her parents)think about what she can do and what she cant.

Dont know why people just wear hijab on its own, without the jilbaab/abaya (outer cloth) there isnt much point of hijab. Hijab should be worn with jilbaab/abaya because Allah(swt) has made it faradh/obligation.
Well for me, hijab is something that would save me from troubles. I think hijab is any piece of clothing that will cover my body modestly and would prevent myself from getting too much attention of men(in a lustful way). It's not neccesarily a veil or jilbaab or abaya. To me, hijab differs from place to place. Like in USA, because woman with a jilbaab on draws more attention than women with any other type of modest clothing I think they shouldn't wear it because it could be harmful for them. Hijab is just ...protection! :-)
