According to what I know: Circumcision is called Sunnat-e-Ibrahimi. According to tradition (mentioned in bible too), it was a covenant made between Allah and Ibrahim (AS) that all male children in the family of Ibrahim (AS) shall be circumcised.

Islam adopted quite a few things from the sunnah and religion of Ibrahim (AS), and circumcision is one of them.

Circumcision is fard (compulsory and obligatory) in Judaism as all Jews are children of Ibrahim (AS) … but circumcision is sunnah (not obligatory but recommended and preferred) in Islam.

Anyhow, due to covenant (agreement) between Allah and Ibrahim (AS), applicable on all male descendant of Ibrahim (AS), I believe, a Muslim who is also descendant of Ibrahim (AS), circumcision should be obligatory.

Note: Most Arabs, especially all Quraish were descendant of Ibrahim (AS) and thus they used to practice circumcision as obligation on them.

So you are saying it is fard on descendants of Ibrahim (AS) and only sunnah on all other muslims?
