Be a man enough to admit when you are wrong. Look at the other persons POV from a Third party POV meaning unbiased analysis. Kind of too much to ask. This is the reason I have almost stopped discussion in the religious forum.

The 1st rule is that, you must be there to discuss not to preach/fight/dominate/manipulate. From my experience of discussions i can see that many people participating in a discussion are not there for a discussion but something else.

personal attacks are BAD in debating on anything. my elementary approach was to turn around and tell the person to 'talk to the hand cuz i aint listening' but now..you just got to hint it coldly, that you will not go on with personal attacks. walk out, give it a break for a while..or come right out and tell 'em to quit being a kid.

Ignore personal attacks....when they see that there is no effect on you, the attack will lose its meaning.
In a discussion you have to be open to learning...thats the best way you can continue a debate sensibly. Perhaps you will learn something of value perhaps not...in any case if you approach the discussion thinking you have all the answers well then you are off to a bad start.
