define in the context of nation state and its people’s standard of living, means of earning and economic cycle?
and then share what are the factors you feel, lead to a poor state of a nation or a country?
please share also what other kinds of poverty, ither than economic and monetary wealths, do you feel, exist?
Poverty....not being able to put a sufficient amount of food on the table to feed your family. Not being able to seek or get health care. Maslow's heirarchy of needs, yeah? Roof over heads, food on table come first. Healthcare next.
If you have these things AND are able to put meat on your table at least three times a week, you are in the top 10 percent of people on the planet.
Now how sad a statement is that? I'm not quite sure if thats a true statement or not since I cannot recall where I read it. But if we think of darfur and even those in Pak and afghanistan, the vast numbers of those going hungry...who really cares about justice when you cant even put food on the table and your little children are hungry? Or one has diarrhea and you cannot provide treatment? Justice is much further down on the heirarchy of needs. And more people need to get further along on that heirarchy.
it is a sad cycle. poverty, and scarce basic necessities.
and therefore, weakness, illness and injustices on multiple personal and social levels.
but it can be broken and in fact eliminated.
the statement is something which i read just now that you posted it.
preventative medicine and early childhood literacy and focus on life long education are the key to living healthy, productive individually and collectively, and for being sane.
yes, D...I mean its like the saying "GIVE a man a fish and he will eat for a day. TEACH him how to fish and he will eat for a lifetime." Thats what we all need to work on - giving the ability of more people to be able to put food on their tables
Poverty means living on handouts forever...like being dependant on donor nations.
Illiteracy is poverty...poverty in the financial sense, in common sense and moral sense.
Poverty means people can easily manipulate you for their gains.
Poverty means not having access to opportunities to better yourself.
Poverty keeps you in a state of never being able to look beyond today. If you survive today, you are lucky.
Poverty means you do not have the luxury to mourn for the loss of your loved ones or your property.. you simply acknowledge the loss and move on with your lives.
Corruption is the biggest cause of poverty and ironically the biggest cause of wealth.
your quote is absolutely warranted in the world today. :)
best,
Dushwari
If citizens dont have to access to justice then it is a clear indicator of poverty in modern context.. limited access to justice breeds other povert indicators.. even if citizens satify other poverty indicators they are still poor by denying them proper social justice..
