You most likely have been fooled. In Pakistan, girls have been going out with boys albiet in lesser number for a long time. .
I never was talking about going out with boys, I meant girls going out with female friends to the mall/movies/etc. And yes I, and many girls i know, heard this line growing up here in the US..

You were not clear when you said friends above. :D
Still that may be because there were no 'malls' to hang around until recently. Girl-friends still hung around in neighborhood etc. in the past.

Remember I was the one who said a country’s culture is wrongly defined. And not letting girls out to ‘mall’ with girls or boys could not be cultural thing, merely means lack of malls. But they did hung around other places…schools, parks, corn fields etc. 
Looking forward to have encounter with ‘cats’. Send them my way.
