It all depends on the situation , sometimes you will have to forget your family and in other situation you forget your career and be there for you family.
Examples:
You have an exam in next couple of days and you are putting all your time and effort to make the grades. Your sister's sixteen birthday is being celebrated with a big bang but you cannot give your time to planning this event.
Your company is giving you promotion but wants to move to some other city or country, but your mother or father is so elderly that they cannot take care of themselves , they need your support and assistance , you sacrifice that career move.

Depends on the stages of your life...

before 18, i would say family... then i went to uni and became more focused on my career... i'm not saying i disregarded or disowned my family, but tbh your family will ALWAYS be there, so i focused on my career. now that's all done with, it's back to focusing on my family :)

i personally prefer to be family oriented but when i get too involved they wanted me to focus on my career, but when i start focusing on my work they wanted me to get back.

god knows what ppl wanted from me.

same problem is with my friend and teachers. when i am late or something and provide them with my creative excuses :@ they enjoy it but also want me to follow the conventions but when i start following them they want me to go get back to old me. :(

family, the only reason I have a career is to support my family.... other wise I would be out partying with the rest of the people that are my age....
