Hey guys, I think I need some lessons about this word JIHAD… I am really confused with all the questions being asked by people at my workplace.. and you can be assured that my Islamic Knowledge is not all that great. I know its not a good thing, but thats how it is.. I hope it will improve..
well last week , I got a call from Pakistan, that one of my cousin was taken to Afghanistan and he was later martyred… same thing happened to his older brother 5 years ago.. these Molvis are taking all these kids to those war areas (after lots of brainwashing) and leaving them there to fight who?? other muslims??? i just dont know whats going on…
why are all the afghanis coming to Pakistan to find a place to live peacefully and all these mosque people taking innocent guys to Afghanistan to fight??
i have 5 questions, i hope SOMEONE on this website will be able to answer these questions for me..
what really is Jihad?
what is going on in Afghanistan? is that considered Jihad?
why don’t these movlies actually go there and fight besides these kids? why do they only recruit and then go abou their business?
are those people who die there considered “shaheeds”?
do all the molvies get sawab for sending those guys there or are they actually creating a sin sheet for them??

1) If you are Ahmedi or Al-Qaediyani it does not apply to you
2) If you are american you consider this term as what's going on in Eye-Rack, Af-Ganistan
3) If you belong to some other lesser known religion you don't care
4) If you are an Indian or Brit, "Gee Had" can be referred as "your" pain in your arse
5) If you are sunni you are doing good
6) If you are Shia hide yourself from sunnis this is what your Jihad is all about
And if you are an American or a Brit, than you dont need to worry about Jihaad and Ribaat. Get a can of beer and sit on your couch and watch Fox or CNN, you'r fighting for democracy its all good as long as its for democracy.
And yeaa...if by chance you happen to see, on Al Jazeerah, tens of women and children, who were attending a wedding in a suburb of Baghdad, slain to death by a US bombing...just change the channel. Who cares if its live footage, as long as its not an American Media Channel...you dont have to believe it.
1) Jihad is a holy war which fights against those ppl stopping us from practising our faith an saving holy land, not sumthin which stops others from practising their faith and takes da life of ineceont humans.
2) in afganistan right now der r soilders protecting the goverment an der ppl (well that is the intention of america) nope that is not a jihad.
3) Becoz these molvis hav families to go home to, basically dey dont care about these children, they just want a name which is wrong.
4) shaheed is one dat dies while protecting holy land an islam.
5) if the molvis send dem there 2 protect our faith then its swab, but if der sent der just 2 fight agaisnt americans den its not swab unless dey fight in self defence. becoz a jihad can only take place if the oposite army starts it. Its neva a jiahd wen to muslims fight each other dats a sin.
Mizz Silk gave a good overview to your questions but id just like to add a couple of things...
(1) Jihad is not only something of a defensive nature...we dont only protect our land...Allah does command us to spread the Deen and we do that through offensive Jihad...
Currently though we have no state so cant actually apply offensive Jihad...all lands that have once been ruled by Islam we are required to defend...so Afghanistan has been occupied so defensive Jihad can be applied...
(2+3)These maulvis are naturallly the brains of the operation so dont do the fighting themselves...Mizz Silk whilst i agree that a lot of Maulvis act under the pretext of Islam we cant always assume an alterior motive...a lot of these maluvis are genuine people who care about defending Muslim land...
(4)A Shaheed is someone who dies for Islam not always someone who dies...not everyone that is fighting is fighting for Islam...if your intention is to please Allah and you act correctly then you are Shaheed so this doesnt apply to everyone...im sure there are some Afghanis fighting for Nationalistic or political reasons as opposed to Islamic...
(5) Mizz Silk covered that...but if i remember Muslims can attack other Muslims...its known as Qitaal i think...it used to happen when the state was in operation and when people felt the state had violated Islamic ruling...this led to arguments and eventually fighting...i might be wrong so correct me if im chatting breeze...
MizzSilk and Naughty by Nature, you are trying to portray a goody goody picture of Jihad but Infact its not so. Its all abt fighting against the people who are not ready to accept the rules given by the book called Quran -e- shariff. When u buy a TV set, camcorder or Washing machine , u get a booklet or operation manual . Quran is the Manual for human beings ( excuse me if u feel I m trying to teach what u all know, but…) Well what can you say of those people who are in front of our eyes denying the Ayat’s of Quran , the words of Allah.
When you are talking of land, well what is Iraq . How can any country enter and occupy other country’s land even without sanctions form the UN ( The rules made by themselves) . Who is responsible for all the killings that took place and taking place there everyday. They talked and talked of WMD ( Weopens of mass Destruction). Where is WMD??? . We just keep quiet and let it go . All the media channels and Print media is in there hands . If you raise your voice , they just ignor it. They only show what suits them or is benificial to them. They talk of Democracy, but infact they are the biggest killers of Democracy. **If they kill innocent people they have reasons for it and if any other organisation kills innocent people they are terriorists. I ask what u r? You are legal terriorists, if u r calling other organistions as terriorists ( here I would like to say I m against killing innocent people but not the gulity’s ) **
UN had a passed a resolution long back that Palestine should get there land back from Israel. Y this resolution is not implemented? When it comes to Israel the rules are different and when it comes to any other Muslim country the rules are totally different.

Raju, i have studied Jihad and its nothin bad at all, over time ppl hav made it out 2 b a bad thing wen it is such a pure act. If u want an example of a jihad look at the battles which took place at the prophets time.

i dont intend to be rude, but please dont talk about matters you have know knowledge of. it is so easy for you to say whats going on in afghanistan is not jihad. and that jihad is only for self defence…it is ok if some one does not know about something, human beings are like that we can never know all, but it is a sign of knowledge to not talk trash about things we are not sure of. so if you want to talk about islam then bring EVIDENCE otherwise dont pass e-fatwas about what is and what is not islam or anything. and dont bring the crap that “i have read about jihad”. well i can say i have “read” about islam at the website of pat robertson, so does it mean i really have really read about real islam from an authentic source? may be you have read about jihad from some unauthentic source.

I dont think anyone stated that Jihad was solely a defensive act...but in the current reality that is all it can be becuase there is no state apparatus to implement offensive jihad...
Fact is you need a state...and an army...so a degree of capability for offensive jihad...as you are spreading Allahs Deen...you need to be capable...
Currently though you have rulers who do not rule by Islam...so hence no offensive Jiahd...
What you have is Muslims defending Muslim land like they do in Afghanistan and Chechneya etc...
You can defend as an individual...to attack you need a state...

Jihad should only b declared for the following reasins..
in defence of the cause of Allah, not for conquest.
to restore peace and freedom of worship.
to gain freedon from tyranny.
if led by a spiritual leader and fough until the enemy lways down arms.
Jihad does not include the following
wars of aggression or ambition.
border disputes or national tribal sqabbles.
the intent to conquer and supress,colonize exploit ect..
forcing people into accepting a faith they do no believe.
what is the real meaning of Jihad Miss Siluk? IN fact this is what all the guppies should do. Come up with one concise definition of a scriptural mandate and stick to it. That way I won't laugh when I read threads like this.
Jihad, or 'striving', applies to any sort of activity made by a person because of the love of Allah. The word comes from 'juhd' which means effort. an example would be living in a non muslim country avoiding the obsticals to carry out a gud muslim life which is done for the love of Allah this is referd to lesser jihad.
