What is Jihad?

Guys a couple of years ago… when i went to a Catholic school..my Faith Developement teacher..who tought my class and I about Christianity..now im not a christian nor do i follow anything at all from that religion..all i do is respect it .So my teacher was saying that ALL the main religions in the world have been changed. So he meant by Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Confusaism, Budhism.etc etc. So i sedd to him “Islam was never changed, you can go anywhere in the world and take a look at the Qur’an there, and it will be same as in every other country” my point was they didnt change the Holy Book …now i didnt wanna look stupid so i didnt argue with him..so he was like “No! Islam was changed because of Jihad” lol…now what is that supposed to mean how was it changed..? he doesnt even know what jihad is!! why did he say that? am i mistaken on what it is. to my knowledge the word “Jihad” means struggle, or to be specific, striving in the cause of God as someone told me…specify…

you are right, your professor is talking from the rear end. Jihad was as significant then as it is now.

However, the Quran hasn't changed, the essential beliefs havent changed, but the way people interpret fiqh has changed. I think that is called ijtihad.

... so your teacher might have said 'ijtihad', not 'jihad'...

Two extraneous replies are removed to keep the discussion on track. Stay focused, gentlemen.

People from other religions always give impressions of Islam whatever they know from other sources.

Quran has not changed, but what to do when one thousand Muslims give one thousand different interpretations of a verse.

Let us say three time Talaq, on this gupshu for the first time I came to know that it is Talaq in three sessions.
How many Muslims give Talaq that way?

The same is Four marriage case. How many Muslims marry second and third time as per conditions of Islam?

And off course Jihad....We have seen so much bloodshed that we doubt your credentials.

i would like to point out that by the grace of Allah (SWT) the Qur'an has not changed, but people like to create fitna (trials) on each other that they circulate incorrect interpretations of the Qur'an. the true Islam is exactly the same. those who change their ways & decide not to act according to the rulings of Allah (SWT) as guided through Islam, that does not change Islam by any means.

  • talaaq is & has always been in three parts.
  • marrying multiple times is not mandatory in Islam.
  • jihad does not = killing. jihad is doing something for the sake of Allah (SWT)
